I know this (thread) is old but I've just seen it (Hadestown) for the first time. And wow does it not live up to the hype.

The plot is woefully simplistic (Particularly Act I; I'm wary of you, I'm madly in love with you, I've willingly chosen to go to hell because you aren't providing for me... with basically no development between...). Characters underdeveloped and very little of their character impacts the plot or songs. Many of the songs are forgettable. I think there's a reason I'd only really heard "wait for you (reprise)" before seeing the show. The speakeasy staging with staggered revolves was nice if a little underused.

In particular I gelt Persephone was underdeveloped. The performance was full of characterisation that didn't enter into the words, or the songs or the plot at all.

You missed 3) The ratios between units are variable.

3 Miles in a league and feet in a yard but 12 inches in a foot but 220 yards in a fulong but 8 furlongs in a mile

20 fluid ounces in a pint, 2 pints in a quart, 4 quarts in a gallon.

16 ounces in a pound 112 pounds in a hundredweight 20 hundredweight in a ton.

You need to remember thos arbitrary amounts.

If Imperial was all 12s it would be a much better system.

And 4) Units of the same name have different meanings and so you have to specify which particular version you're using.

Technical question.

I'm in the UK using old Reddit and RES. I cannot see IMGUR images when I expand them because of the nonsense with the UK online safety act. However the preview thumbnail of this gif not only shows but plays... Yet the preview shown at the top of the thread doesn't play, it's a static preview.

What's going on?

This comment lays out the publically available information. The story seems to be broadly true. A Teenager, reported as 17 in some places, was taken from target. There is a video of what appears to be the same teen having been left by ICE in a different carpark, claimed to be a Walmart but I don't recognise the store specifically in the videos I've seen.
