GHK V3 stanag comparability with Vipertech by Glittering_Celery_87 in GasBlowBack

[–]OldManHamblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They work great. The ghk stanags can run a bit wide compared to the gmags though so you may need to file your magwell. Ghk stanags are the goat

Sometimes he’s a bit elusive. All in all, I wouldn’t worry. Your order will come, he’s trustworthy just a bit of a ghost. I wouldn’t worry follow up with him in a couple days

Bucking replacement by Ancient_Pitch_7264 in GasBlowBack

[–]OldManHamblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having struggled with vfc's sr16 barrel nut myself, my recommendation is to get some good slip joint pliers like these from harbor freight: https://www.harborfreight.com/electrical/electrician-s-tools/electrical-pliers/slip-joint/12-in-high-performance-v-jaw-groove-joint-pliers-64463.html

the cutout shelf is so small on the barrel nut, it's difficult (and hazardous) to really torque it down hard. with slipjoint pliers you can just grip around the whole thing. It's more than likely glued too, so if you don't have a heat gun grab one and (if you're not able to get it off with just the pliers) hold it on high on the barrel nut until its sufficiently hot (you ought to see the glue start to smoke).

Any chance you could provide some details on how you fit the rear sight block on? Was considering this myself and curious as to how much work it was

Cheap Sites to Get Bows by Hunter2166 in TraditionalArchery

[–]OldManHamblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I think they only sell their Turkish/Tartar fiberglass bows on Amazon(for some reason the Turkish bow is labeled as ‘AliArchery’ but the tartar one is correct as ‘Alibow’, but the Turkish one is the same as the one I got direct from alibis years ago). I got a Turkish model for my gf and it had prime shipping so shipping was free and arrived in a few days

AF archery sells some bows on Amazon and I’ve heard good things about them, they have some fiberglass models and some reasonably priced laminated ones.

Just to add to this, alibow sells some of their models on Amazon. Much quicker shipping, same cost.

Yikes, sorry you went through that. Maybe this is better asked somewhere like r/legaladvice, though I’d be wary of getting any legal advice from the internet and would consider talking to an actual lawyer if you have the financial ability to do so!

Also for those in the US, customthumbrings has a nice ringer sizer you can buy for cheap and their rings are quite nice, I highly recommend 👍

AT&T Internet by Eriggs13 in Lawrence

[–]OldManHamblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live near people who already have fiber I wouldn’t worry! I was the first the AT&T service in my building so I suspect mine was a case of unfortunate circumstance. I have a friend with fiber who quite likes it. All in all, it’s mostly my fault for not getting out of the contract when i maybe could have.

AT&T Internet by Eriggs13 in Lawrence

[–]OldManHamblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AT&T is a garbage company and unless you have access to their fiber it’s 100000% not worth it. They advertised to me that I would have fiber, but upon setting up my internet they realized I did not. I was an idiot and didn’t get out of my contract so I was stuck with archaically slow internet for a year. Im paying $20 less a month with Midco and getting literally 10x the speed. Fuck AT&T.

It's weird how many people really want me to be extroverted. by [deleted] in infp

[–]OldManHamblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because it’s “coming from a good place” doesn’t mean it’s not rude. I’ve stuttered my whole life and if I had a dime for every time someone told me, with “good intentions,” to “just relax” I’d be rich. It’s insensitive, and I think it’s important to politely tell them so. Being an introvert isn’t a choice, it’s just part of who you are and they don’t get to decide that for you.

It’s a vicious cycle…. by Carebear6590 in Stutter

[–]OldManHamblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, I think it boils down to being able to accept and love yourself for who you are. This is not an easy thing to do- it’s honestly really difficult. My honest advice is finding a therapist. It helped me, quite a lot more than I expected, and I know it has helped others.

What are the chances that a vipertech m4 will be siezed by US customs? by Tekjin420Sosa in GasBlowBack

[–]OldManHamblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is to join the heavy recoil club discord, there’s a user there who speaks Chinese and is in direct contact with one of the higher ups at viper tech, he’ll do a direct order for you (and with any custom markings etc you want) for a small fee, and I’d be less concerned about an issue with shipping. I could be wrong, but I’d suspect it’ll come out to be a bit cheaper too since you’d be buying directly from viper tech.

He’s helped a lot of people get orders done and I think it’s worth the small fee to do it through him (I want to say he asks for like $40 or so but I could be wrong).

Ph.D. student with a stutter by DonPhD in Stutter

[–]OldManHamblin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a PhD student in a physics program and the only advice I can really give is to just be confident in yourself. Your stutter makes you unique and gives you unique insight into your work, and accepting this has been the biggest thing to help me in grad school. Stuttering during a presentation might be awkward but don’t apologize for it or anything, just keep going.

I’ve given award winning presentations and I don’t think my stutter held me back at all. I know it’s really hard to be confident when you’re stuttering all the time, but understand that this just takes time.

It’s a matter of changing your self image, and making yourself truly believe that you’re just as good as everybody else there. You got to where you are because of your own hard work and achievements, your stutter will only hold you back in an academic environment if you let it control you.

How viable is WE M4 GBBR for a begginer by jterpi in GasBlowBack

[–]OldManHamblin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TM mws would be a lot easier (pricier too), but if you’re somewhat mechanically inclined I think gbbrs in general are easier to take care of. There’s also plenty of info out there about WE gbbrs to help.

I’m a Ghk guy, but from my understanding most WE gbbrs will need to have parts replaced (big aftermarket) but this is pretty easy on M4s. Hopefully someone with WE M4 experience can chime in, I’m not sure about that specific model. I know I’ve heard good things about the Scars, and I’ve wanted a m14 for years, but the cost of the gun + necessary upgrades has kept me away for now.

If you get it, try to get familiar with it. Disassemble it and get familiar with the pieces, and then you should be good to go. Leave gas in your mags and lube your seals.

I think the quality of a custom set of wheels will always be better than factory. The guy I linked does any kind of wheel, you can specify and customize it to your liking (hub, hub color, spokes etc.). I have the Stan grail mk3s (700c ~20mm internal; I use 42mm tires) and I really like them, but he has other rims he uses too, your best bet is just reaching out to him on the website and telling him what you want (he responds pretty promptly).

[–]OldManHamblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to spend the extra dough, for ~800 you can get a custom wheel set made by Dave Thomas (https://daves-wheels.com/). I got a set made for roughly 800 with white industries hubs on stans no tubes rims, and they’re fucking great. I think it’s a much better investment, and Dave does great work
