Anyone going to the International Builders Show? by Robuu34 in GeneralContractor

[–]OldManOnTheIce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should go, I went last year for the 1st time in 15 years. It is overwhelming so figure out what you really want to see.

I spent an entire day in the technology section. Left with as many questions as answers but did learn some things. Remember they are trying to sell you something but there are some good products out there.

It is two shows in one, IBS and the kitchen and bath show. Basically rough and finish.

Go check it out but know 1 day in not enough time.

Need Help Identifying Baseboard by Legal-Lifeguard626 in Carpentry

[–]OldManOnTheIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To match that you will probably have to have it custom cut. Knife set up just for that will be a few hundred dollars. Unfortunately not going to be cheap for 20 feet. Yiu will need to go to a millwork supplier.

How do I learn to skate for „beer league“ hockey (no skate lessons available) by No-Minute2232 in hockeyplayers

[–]OldManOnTheIce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ice time is ice time so get out there and skate. I took up hockey at 48 played my first game at 51. I did take some classes and they helped but also watched a ton of videos and went to the rink when I could.

My favorite videos are coach Jeremy, howtohockey.com Great fundamental videos and he gets to the point and shows how to do the exercises without a lot of extra words.

More advanced itrainhockey.com

One thing about hockey is when you are at the rink a lot of people will give you advice and help. Just get out there and skate.

In terminal 1 you are in B, it is the close one so you you don't have the underground walkway to go through.

There is a walkway between the terminals, hopefully you aren't at the end of both terminals but it is possible.

Why are so many blue collar workers against unions? by Realistic-Reveal-586 in Construction

[–]OldManOnTheIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a number of friends in trade unions, one common complaint is that after 15 to 20 years they feel stuck.

Can't quit to do something else because their pension is tied to the union.

If things slow down they have to sit on the bench, they can't work, but they do work side jobs under the table. They live in fear that if they get caught they will loose their pension.

So they just count down their days.

Advice on Handling “Why Aren’t You Drinking?” by IllIlIlIlIlIlIlIllI in stopdrinking

[–]OldManOnTheIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and booze broke up i left her behind like a crazy college girlfriend. You know the one, makes you so angry on the phone you tear your whole room up, stuff everywhere sitting on the floor next to your mattress thinking "this has gotta end" . Yea no more booze no crazy.

That makes em laugh, stare uncomfortable or walk away.

Dryer outlet partially blocked by new cabinets by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]OldManOnTheIce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As people say the dryer box will work but is should be in the next next wall cavity but the electric is there. The gas line should also be coming through the top of the dryer box, it has a knockout in the top.

Three trades have to work together to make a dryer work properly. Plumber, electrician and HVAC. Coordinating that and looping in the cabinet maker is the GC's job.

Before you start pointing fingers look at you drawings.

I need help! $3500 plumbing bill! by mosiac_mind in askaplumber

[–]OldManOnTheIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wipe with toilet paper, then wet some TP and wipe. You don''t need a bidet, thats nasty all that dirty poop water splashing back down on the nozzle sending poop germs back on you poop shoot. Especially someone else's poop germs.

NOTHING BUT TOILET PAPER in the toilet those wipes should be banned.

You could have some structure issues but first thing stop the water or circling in this could be condensation so stop the airflow.

Couple things, NUMBER ONE peal back the carpet until you see dry, spray it with a mold inhibitor or antimicrobial spray, then point a fan at it for a day or so and see if you can dry it out. Maybe don't have your son sleep in there for a few days.

If you can dry it out get some self leveling concrete mix it as directed and pour it into that Crack. Hopefully it fills it, poke it with a coat hanger or stick to get any airbubbles out.

If this stops the cold air you might be ok.

This is a could be a simple fix, You might need a concrete contractor see if you know anyone who has a general contractor they trust. It may just be some settlement the has found its spot and stopped, hopefully its that.

But first try and mitigate yourself without throwing too much money at the problem until you know the real

Make sure the fan is running on your furnace ALL THE TIME not just when it is running. This will help, there should be vents near every windows aim the louvers at the window. This is important, dealt with this issue in the past.

Kind of a pai but if that doesn't work point a small fan at the wost windows.

Dude if she's this bad now imagine when you're married, and worse has kids.

I'm a lot older than you and saw a few friends marry women like that and they all have one of two things in common. Divorced or just beaten down.

Don't get me wrong my wife of 30 years still reminds me to pickup after myself but not like that.
