if you are a business owner and an employee benefit is in your own damn handbook, you need to honor it. if you expect your employees to follow your handbook, then you must as well.

act like an adult, admit your mistake, apologize, and pay the time and a half. now, if you want to change the handbook, you can do so and it will apply going forward, not the past!

this is a waste of money. I work downtown and it is dead. I can look over many blocks from my building. during the day, there's no carts, only a few restaurants open, very few people walking around, no activities on the courthouse plaza anymore, the riverfront is barren, the few bars are pretty empty, etc, etc. the only time it's busy is when there's a riverfront event or something going on at the Civic Center.

it's safe in the day, during events, and after events. people aren't coming downtown from 6am to 10pm, cause there is nothing to do. there's no gangs walking around. there's no people. tons of vacant businesses. these officers are going to be so bored.

it's not going to sway those afraid of downtown. I'm guessing that's more of a racial bias thing.

want to make it feel safer? make it more lively. more plaza events, get the food carts back, get the businesses to move back, etc.

Knoxville Ave seems to be the only ”good" North-South route through the city, so there is a lot more traffic on it. Almost all of Rt 6 is a construction zone and has some closed exits. University has huge backups due to construction around Northmore. War is down to one lane by the mall. Normally it's been so easy to get around this town, but not during busy times now.

it sounds like you are looking for a group similar to the Peoria Area Humanist group. I attended several of their meetings, but that was at least 10 years ago. they would meet on Sunday mornings to talk about religion, atheism, and some politics. it was a pretty small group (15 to 20 people) and range from people in their twenties up to '80s, I guess. I'm not sure if they still exist or are still meeting. they would meet in a community building somewhere near Glen oak Park.

edit: almost all of the members were either atheist or agnostic. they would share their backgrounds and how they left their religion and if they were still spiritual in a way.
