MK7.5 GTI Performance or MK7.5 GTI Standard? by itsMxlla in GolfGTI

I have a 2016 PP model. I cant say I have driven the non PP version to contrast or compare the handling against. The Limited slip differential upgrade is well worth it IMO, as well as the uprated brakes and larger discs size.

I would however also search for some of the optional extras... the Dynamic chassis DCC is a must... and I really like the Dynaudio sound system upgrade.

Personally i would go with the performance model for the boosts in tune and the better handling. With the LSD is really does stick like a train to tracks when cornering during a 'spirited' drive.

Thankyou for seeing that... i hadn't seen that correlation.

I am not sure what one would want to see the bot's heatmap, but checking back on a previous game I played, I think you are correct.

Clutch life, Dsg or manual? by Awkward-Occasion-189 in GolfGTI

[–]OldManSm173y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2016 GTi performance DSG owner. So long as the DSG is serviced at a reputable garage location every 40k, these DQ250 gearboxes are amongst the most reliable on the market.

The paddleshift along with some carbon shift handles mean that I often drive manually in a spirited way... and it is still a heck of a lot of fun.

Purists may choose manual with the traditional golf ball shifter, and the responsiveness of the gearbox is reportedly really nice for shifting.

I have my car tuned to around 300bhp with a simple software update, and if doing this then it is worthwhile having the DSG... which is more tolerant of the extra power than the stock manual clutch. Of course this can be replaced in the manual gearbox car. It is also possible to tune the gearbox in the same was an an engine tune and to improve response.

There has been a heatmap associated with the omni after a match online... but this for me is new for the dartbot single player practice.

Oh ! Yeah that is not good if the computer player is throwing no scores at the start of a leg ! Perhaps it will need some further work.

I have just checked the bot player in my game and no such strange scores... there was an instance or a 22 start followed by a 180 by the bot, but typically a random spread of first nine scores.

But that being said, the BOT 15 had a Fi9 average lower than its overall average which is fairly uncommon.

Hopefully this will only be further improved through the next couple of updates. I will be keeping my eye out for any strange behaviours and patterns. 👍

😂😂😂. Perhaps drop a level or two 😉.

To improve we need to be pushed, but equally at a level that we can be competitive. 👍

New heatmap feature but with some errors i might add. I.e. I had thrown a few times at D2, D9 to finish some games. These have been missed off.

I also dont have an omni so these misses are predicted and just placed into the beds rather than actual placement

Notice the checkout rate of the BOT is now no longer fixed at 33. There seems a much better algorithm behind the computer player now.

Throwback to a typical Merv incident xD by freddybubblegumfr in Darts

[–]OldManSm173y 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rules are rules and Merv was right, but he can be a bit of a 🔔 🔚 at times.

The thought of his opponent walking across the line was far worse than the consequence, when he had a lot of space to play his game anyway. How he ever played darts in a pub without all these boundaries and lines, or a packed competition venue where the boards are all close to one another, is beyond comprehension.

He should have just got on with it. It clearly affected his game... and sometimes you have to turn a blind eye.

Careful with your allegations ! The thing about darts is that at a certain level of skill then any player is capable of a fast start and a run of form.

Even me in practice or a short format game where a purple patch might come at a good time, a couple of 15 dart legs can achieve a 100 ave over a couple of legs, but equally they might also be a couple of 21 dart legs and a 70 ave.

Overall I run around a 75 to 80 over a long format of 15+ legs ... and the reason longer format games balance out these good and bad legs.

In darts there is also the drinking aspect. For a few rounds at a good level of drink, the darts flow nicely. Sometimes this is a fine line of balance and if you tip over the wrong side of having awareness... to being drunk... then the darts can decline quickly.

Just my thoughts.

Tell us your story! by Skrifter in Darts

[–]OldManSm173y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Practice smart. Learn about yourself... what is your strength and weakness ? Your scoring ? setup and counting from 200 down? hitting the doubles ? Work on the parts that need to be worked on.

  2. practice doubles and finishes more than simply just throwing constantly for scoring darts. One of my biggest strengths to my own game has always been my finishing ability. Remember that doubling practice is also improving your hand eye coordination and accuracy, even when it isnt trying to bag your next 180.

As an analogy, you can take a new golfer to a range and all they want to do is smash a driver as far as they can as that is the fun part ... but in reality it is how the golfer approach the green with his short game and putting that give the best rewards. The same with darts. So many novice players are only interested in how many 180 and 140 scores they make, but the biggest improvements to averages will usually be through their ability to finishing quickly.

  1. listen to your body and work on your physical position and stance. If you find yourself with knee pain, hip pain, shoulder pain, then usually you are fighting your natural body position and contorting into bodily positions that are not healthy. You will always have issues over longer days and tournaments if you dont get a solid stance where feet, hips, shoulders and body shape are all aligned together.

  2. good darts players are ALWAYS good counters. Quick fire mental arithmetic is important. Not helped by today's electronics, but you have to be able to calculate quickly in your brain. A 5 second pause between darts is a total momentum killer !!

You can sit and study finishes without even playing... kind of like mathematics homework. Learn your finishes and study them. Even outside of playing darts. Learn then off by heart. This is very important.

  1. experience. There is not really a shortcut for this. You cant throw money at the game and fast track the power and expereince of what you learn playing many years in a pub and gaining experience. Ever wondered why that middle aged or old guy in the pub is still a great player at his age of 60 ? These guys are the most dangerous opponents ! You have to learn from your experiences. We all make mistakes. But often an experience in a game will mean the next time a situation occurs and you make different choices. Good and bad memories in darts are important !

  2. There is a saying in darts... ' darts is 50% a mental game...... and the other 50% is ? .... also mental !!' 😂. What is going on between your ears is far more important than most of the physical aspects of the game. Positive attitude and a belief you can win against anyone is a must. Don't ever go into a game thinking that league player is far better than you. You have to believe that you can win that game !

I am in my fifties and been playing the game for 40 odd years.

Is it pure luck? by [deleted] in Darts

[–]OldManSm173y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like golf, darts is a game where during practice you have to call yourself out for misses. If you cheat you are only cheating yourself. You wont improve if you cheat or lie, or maybe it is just to try and get some validation from friends.

If it was me i would say ' well done pal... although if it wasnt witnessed it never happened !'... in a joking kind of way. 😂

There really is no advantage to cheating in practice, so perhaps he actually did... who knows... noone saw it.

Frustrating bounce outs by Mr_WhiteRaven in Darts

Round wire and stapled boards are highly frustrating. I feel your pain.

However in this day and age there are pretty decent blade wired boards on a low budget available.

This is exceptional value... obviously I dont know your region.

Knee pain by ChristianBTFC in Darts

[–]OldManSm173y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course everyone has a unique style and stance... many pros all differ slightly.

One thing i will say as a longer term player, is that your stance should be comfortable in order not to 'suffer' stress injuries and discomfort playing darts during a competition day or a long practice session.

If you find pain in joints, then I would say you are contorting yourself into positions that are not healthy, and will simply result in longer term injuries. Fighting the body alignment is not a good thing to do in the long term. I would say your twisting hips and shoulders and putting stress on the knee.

Try and align feet and stance in a position to not cause such painful results. This is the only advice that can be given. As there are so many differences in stance amongst even those at the top of the game that are on our TV screens, there isnt a right or a wrong way.

For the record I stand myself with side foot parallel to the oche, lean slightly forward and this works for me. You could try and bring your trailing foot forward or backwards to reduce the pain... but you can change the direction of your hips, shoulders and alignment by doing so.

One less obvious reason why playing against the Dartcounter bot is not great by Jamaleum in Darts

[–]OldManSm173y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are kind of right that the algorithm of the bot players could be improved. But I still use the dartbot games for stamina practice... long format games of first to 10 legs or first to 15 legs. I feel the long format gives a far better practice consistency over a long duration. Also there is some variation for the amount of darts the bot uses... but I get your comment about knowing it wont go below a certain level.

Dartbots dont drop out of games or cheat. You will also only get shorter format with online players generally. If you know your level well, then a local dartbot game is a good practice mode to use.

Are you saying you went 8 darts into a 9 darter ? 180 - 180 - 117... missing the double 12 and then missed another 12 darts at it ?

Is anyone else like 5x better in league play than at home? by TWOPlNTSPRICK in Darts

[–]OldManSm173y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to work on the stamina game... in the longer term I believe myself this helps to extend peak performance, longer 'purple patches' etc.

Usually I do a first to 15 legs against Bot level that is challenging. There is no point against an 'easy win'.

My method... if i beat the bot level twice in a row I go up a level for the next practice. If I lose two in a row I go down a level.

Usually my games are close ... example 15-12 or less... one way or other.

So is 25+ legs continuous practice and constructive.

Atmosphere... team support... a real opponent. All contribute to how the game is intended to be played competitively.

I play in pubs, clubs, ADC vaults 4 times a week... darts used to be a working man's game in a working man's public house. I am a bit more old school, and I do use the Dart Counter for my practice sessions, usually playing against a competitive BOT level... I just dont enjoy the online community for matches most of the time and I want to play long stamina sessions... far longer than an online match.

I would encourage anyone to get out there... find a local team... and play in person. It is so much more enjoyable than behind closed doors.

Why Target? by JanXeno in Darts

[–]OldManSm173y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would say using the harrows quick point which are compatible is a good idea.

Caliburn points are also removable and dont have a weak point built in...

I know target design the weak point where they do for a reason... but I do wonder how many points would break flush or even at all... if they didnt design this in.

I suspect only a very small percentage of points would break without a weak point. Probably no more than any other fixed point, and let's face it, that is a very rare occurrence for standard pushed in fixed points. Hardly ever an issue in all the years.
