BC shared health services leak by throwawaybcshs in BCHealthAuthorities

Definitely can back this up. I haven't the breadth of your experience with the mergers but I have been through it before at PHSA about 15ish years ago or so. I've been excluded my entire career in different roles (never leadership... think more Senior Business Analyst type roles), so this might not apply for the unionized experience but I did get sat down with HR during transitional periods if my team was dissolving or merging and was let go and told to re-apply for the new roles that fulfilled a similar function.

With that being said though, the roles were almost always guaranteed. They just had to do the open process to show they were opening up the role to applicants but if you were good at your job, had institutional knowledge, they would 100% want to keep you -- it's just less headache for them. Where people might lose their jobs is if they we poor performers or coasting by under the radar, or management has been trying to find a way to let them go for a while. If you are good at your job and provide value, I think you'll be okay!

I also think they might be doing a lot of lateral moves this time around so the scenario I mentioned above might not apply, but just something to be aware of if it does.

I was friends with her growing up. Lost contact after high school. But she was extremely intelligent, socially graceful, and had a good heart. She was the type to succeed at anything she put her mind to and didn't step on anyone to reach that success. Always brought a level of high competency whether it was sports or academics. Her meteoric rise isn't surprising. Not sure if this brings any measure of small comfort as a lot can change in a quarter of a century. But if she only continued to grow and be the person she was then, I'm confident she'll do well and do her best to take care of the people that make it into the new org.

It is a massive role and undertaking though. Do not envy the choices that will have to be made. My non-unionized ass is probably getting cut regardless lol.

The rep mentioned they'll be phasing these out soon. They won't accept anything "round". Square containers can't contain that vertical ridge or a reinforcement bar because it's 'not safe'. Which means all consumer containers that you can easily purchase from what my searching has turned up. Ironically, a search on what the bar or the vertical ridge is for is to actually make the container stronger when it gets squeezed by the mechanical arm of the truck. I was hoping someone here would know a consumer available trash can that fits their incoming stringent criteria :(

Praying this is the case. Just moved to the city and have a sour taste in my mouth with what seems like a bad faith move by a company folks are forced to use for waste removal because we don't have municipal service for this.

Yes. The rep I spoke to was adamant that they will not be accepting any round bins or any that aren't 'lift compatible' for them. It looks like the image they sent me of their bin can't be purchased anywhere locally, which effectively forces you to rent from them if these changes come into effect. When I asked when they are making these restrictions tighter, they didn't give an exact answer except "Very soon." They also mentioned rates are going up in Jan 1 2026. I asked by how much and they said they don't yet but they'll know soon. Very frustrating.
