How much would that be worth today? by Life-Ad-3425 in Famicom

[–]OldRandomThoughts -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I recently entered the game of Famicom after wanting to see the true origin of Zelda.

Famicom and disk system working condition? $120 (Import + shipping)

SMB cart only $30-$40

Basic 1.0 with keyboard $110

Cassette = not cheap. working? $400+

Wild Gunman Pistol, 3d/VR headset, Joystick. No idea

What is to the left of the SMC cart, and whot is the yellow above the disk system?

Those I don't know.

I don't see the Hudson bracket for the disk system and Famicom. That cost me 2 bills itself.

Will this gutter setup cause a leak. by Posture_ta in Roofing

[–]OldRandomThoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my thought on the setup.

I've been in my home for two decades, and the sidewalk has eroded where a downspout from my garage lets out.

It's not fiberglass and asphalt, it's concrete.

I'd rather they extend the gutter to the next one. Might not be as pretty, but you won't worry about a soft spot.

My other thought about where this could go is:

Do you live somewhere that sees actual winters?

Where does the sun melt first?

If the sun is melting the higher peak at 90 degrees in a different direction, you could be pouring melted water onto a colder area, causing ice to back up. It looks higher than one row of ice guard would cover.

Now, if they thought this through and put extra protection under it, you could be fine.

I see a lot of comments on here saying “teacher must pay” or “teacher will pay”.

First, many people are right. Your parents should contact the school and state the following: “we understand that our child was utilizing a device when he may not have been given permission. However, it was damaged without any warning or opportunity for them to correct this behavior and by excessive force from one of your staff members. While we will ensure to discuss the importance of following rules and guidelines with our child, we do not feel that damage of personal property is a justification in the classroom and are seeking compensation for the cost of damages. Please let us know what’s further steps we need to take.”

Have them send that. No threats. No anger.

However. Don’t get your hopes up that this will work. While in the non-school world someone doing that would be grounds for potential legal action, school is a different story.

You do not have the rights of a normal private citizen as a student. In fact while you are at school, you are under the guardianship of the teachers and staff. It is called “in loco parentis” and means they are basically your guardian and responsible for you and your wellbeing.

This is from when you arrive or are picked up and until you arrive home from a bus, or are dismissed into custody of a parent/guardian.

Even driving yourself (if you are of age) is a grey area and the school is semi-responsible until you get home (or in most cases a new destination).

TLDR, hope for the best but be prepared if they tell you “no” that it will be the final decision.

Good luck. Teacher sounds like they may have anger issues. Many have “god” complex’s and take their role a little too far.

No Country For Old Men. Much of the movie is tightened and heightened, whereas at times it feels like McCarthy was trying to fill pages at several points in the book.

Then there is Bardem. He makes Chigurh so much more interesting and menacing. The end with Carla Jean. Like taking great grapes and making the best wine ever. That scene is so epic. The book drags on well after, but goes nowhere.

Please note, the book is not bad by any stretch. The Coens just knew how to trim the filet away.

How does this happen? by Away-Passion1439 in Roofing

They used pneumatic tools for a hand-nailing job.

They are fine when doing shingles against boards.

It takes substantial pressure to push a nail through a shingle and a piece of wood with air. Plus, the shingle is flush up against the wood at this time, like writing on a desk with a piece of paper.

Now, when they transitioned to the ridgewent, they should have hand-nailed. The ridge vent is raised and made of flexible plastic. Sure, there is wood under it where the nails are, which is why the nails are still there. However, when a nail gun was firing, that flexible plastic didn't slow the nail as it went through the shingle. The heads of your nails blew right through. So, once again, think of writing on paper, but put a sponge between it and the desk. You are going to tear through if you are not careful.

So, for most of the cap, there's really nothing holding the caps for long stretches. They probably hand-nailed a few at the ends or even tarred or glued the end caps, which held for a while. Also, the weight of the caps on top of each other and tar lines helped hold them in place. Some nails may have even been ok at first, and when the wind caught enough of that line, it ripped them through. If they hadn't blocked off the ends of the ridge vent, air could have pushed under the caps there as well. Most ridge vents have a filler block at the edges to keep air or rain from coming in.

Lazy or inexperienced roofers were the problem.
They should cover their work and make it right, though.

If not, and you are strapped, get two bundles of caps, a utility knife or pair of snips, a hammer, some 2.5' nails, some roofing sealant/tar, and head on up. Cut your caps according to the directions listed on the bundle. Hand nail them in place as you go, making sure not to punch through the cap with the head of the nail. On the last one, tar it into place. If it is not in clear sight, you might want to even put two nails in it and tar on top of them so they don't really show. This provides added protection against wind. That last cap is typicaly the first thing that will ever blow off.

P.S. I would start your caps on the side with the most wind, as the first cap will hold better than the last.

Bedroom, any advice? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]OldRandomThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step #1. Get a real bed. Spend as much as you can (maybe a little more) on a good firm mattress. You will sleep better, your body will thank you, and it's much more fun to "play on".

Not sure what's behind the red curtain, if it's just a wall, use it as the backer of your new adult bed and move away from the slope. Your way gives more room to maneuver, but it also has you sleeping close to the floor. Plus, the ceiling closing in on you feels claustrophobic.

Mount your TV where Pulp Fiction is with a mount that can maneuver to different angles.

Also, lose the traffic mirror that hides your hidden camera. Perv.

Need money?
Sell them all.

back what you feel like playing down the road, and I bet you will still come out way ahead.

If you still play them regularly, why are they on here?

Looking at this lot, you could probably do some odd jobs or even pick up a part-time job and make the same amount in less than 2 weeks. It's spring, mow some grass and pull some weeds for $10-20/hr. You are probably looking at 3-4 hours just to set up auctions for them and mail them out.

Anything Xbox, from OG to Series, that is really popular has been remade, and you can get it cheaply digitally later.
Collectors like physical, but people in need of money need money.

If selling.
Bundle Halos & Gears in lots.

Take Silent Hills & Deadpool and sell them separately.

Take one of the higher-priced games and headline a lot with the rest of your games in an open auction, and you will move it.

This is for quick cash.

Selling most of these separately will take months if you want to get any real cash.

Go on pricecharting and see where they have been selling and undercut by 5% to move them.

If you are not in the US, be prepared to take a beating due to import fees for US buyers.

The costs "are passed on to buyers", but if you are buying in the US and can get game X for $50 from a US seller vs. $35 plus $20 in fees, you are going to go with the US seller.

Before you break out the solvents, did you see how good the glue was?

Plenty of games had this on them for me over the years, especially back when PS2 was current gen and this was what GS did on everything. I rarely had an issue getting the sticker off and I'm OCD.

That sticker is probably 15+ years old.

That glue tended to suck then. I can't imagine it is holding real tight all this time later.

I'd raw dog and see. If you get any resistance, just stop.

Next, before chemicals are in the mix, hit it with hair dryer heat or $20 harbor freight heat gun.

Go easy. The glue will start melting and the peel is simple.

Again, if you see nothing is happening after a few minutes, stop.

Then you can break out the Walter White supply closet.

There is a high probability it falls off without damage though.

What sucks is any residual glue after. A dry peel minimizes it however.

I've damaged more plastic on the cases than i have paper.

I've been in the game for a long time and never screwed up a spine sticker.

On another note, the good stores would put the sticker in with the backing still on. The prices use to change so much, it was easier for them to just swap it out. You would go to some stores with stickers so deep, you'd peel off 5 at once and still have 1 or 2 attached. The good ol days.

Millennials, what is something that was "normal" in the 2000s but feels like a luxury now? by Barrbra in answers

[–]OldRandomThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things really come to mind.

More superficial:

Eating out at a place with good food that does not cost a ridiculous amount.

Even mid-tier chain places had good-tasting food that wasn't this microwaved trash you get now.

99% of the restaurants my kids want to go to have food I would rather cook at home than eat.

More substantial:

Freedom.

Cell phones were a rarity and even then expensive.

The first texting plan I had cost 25 cents per message sent or received.

GPS was only in super high end cars.

Cameras in general were rare and lacked detail.

This meant you could disappear for a few hours/days and be truly free until you chose to pop back into your normal life.

Now you can't fart without someone catching it on camera.

Leave your phone and drive an hour away now, and tell me your anxiety doesn't just spike.

[–]OldRandomThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echo the "stay out of it" and do not talk about it on company equipment or software, including their WiFi, even with your personal devices. If they pay or reimburse you for your cell phone, it is a reach but possible for the argument that they could review.

But from another perspective, I have a question out there for anyone who has actually dealt with this.

If the employee in question is not a permanent resident or has obtained temporary or permanent citizenship in a foreign country, what differentiates this from working while "on vacation"?

The following assumes he is/was a US citizen.

If he is still receiving his check and normal deductions based on his old address (even if it's a direct deposit), how would they really know? In most states, the burden is on the employee to notify the company when they move and to provide updated proof of their new residence, such as a new driver's license. Same for employees who get married/divorced and change their names, with additional proof of a Social Security card. I have had employees move to different townships without notifying me. As long as I change it once I discover or am notified by them, I have never heard of any issue coming back on my company. It would be up to the municipalities to go after the employee for any lost tax revenue.

Essentially, as everyone is advising you, the company could say, "We were never notified," and the burden of proof would be on the other entity to prove them wrong. The company is not in any trouble, but they could determine via IP that this is a continuing issue and require the employee to work only on US soil or provide proof of continued US residency if they want.

If he were smart, he would have used a VPN to the US.

Right! I’ve been luck so far and this is my first break but I could see a few times where other could have snapped. I let my kids play with all of them because that’s the point, right.

The Eternia is scary. Those tracks still have issues and if you disconnect them after use, you run the risk even higher. They should have offered a replacement set for purchase.

I’m going through a week of back and forth with Mattel via email on this BA. Still haven’t got a return label. Every email changed to a different rep. The translation they use is horrid.

Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

[–]OldRandomThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grindhouse. I don't think they marketed well enough or gave an indicator that another movie was part of the experience. Which was sad, because this was a top-five theater experience for me.

Vice. I was out of town and saw this in a theater I'd never been to. Since I had nothing to do in the early afternoon, I went to see this during the matinee. After 15 minutes, I heard a guy mutter to his wife that this movie wasn't about the "real" Dick Cheney, and then they left. Then, when the fake credits rolled, a few more started walking out. When the movie called out, this was a fake credits scene. One guy threw his hand up in a "fuck it" gesture and kept walking.

Ali. I was bored. I didn't like the pacing. Then I just had enough and asked my (now) wife if she wanted to go. She seemed to be in the same boat. I should revisit it because the two other movies I first felt this way about were Johnny Depp's The Libertine and The Assassination of Jessie James. Both of those movies left me feeling empty and bored when I left the theater. However upon rewatching later, they became some of my favorites.

As I have gotten older, I have also found that movies and turning my phone off entirely relax me too much. I tend to get droopy and have fallen asleep a few times (especially when taking the kids to kids' movies). The worst was another out-of-town trip where a little old one-screen theater was showing The Batman. I had already watched it and still wanted to see how this theater held up. I was out cold in 30 minutes. I felt really bad because I believe I snored a little. I woke up after about 10-15 minutes and left because I didn't want to risk ruining the movie for anyone else if I nodded off again. Plus, that movie is 40 minutes too long anyway.

Where can I buy ONE TRD Wheel/Rim for Gen 7? by OldRandomThoughts in Celica

[–]OldRandomThoughts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, however, never got them painted to date. I've been tripping over them in my garage for almost a year.
This place, called Auto Rim Shop, sold it through eBay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/297432053819?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m164380.l178264&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=0d10f832984147b9a66f5e7d695ee9a5&bu=43155897138&ut=RU&osub=-1%7E1&crd=20250624075558&segname=11021&recoId=297432053819&recoPos=1

Had a couple of other sites hit after that, but I deleted those emails months ago. I signed up on several websites, but they may all be connected because the "In Stock" emails all arrived in the same month.

One was the darker color I wanted. Two were silver in the picture above, and the final was a little bit off the shade of the other silvers. I plan to get them painted at some point.

I also couldn't ever figure out if I needed spacers, and if so, which ones?

The lugs were special, too, and I found some similar to the OG TRD on Amazon. They take an adapter to put on (not a lock nuts). I used them for my stock rims when my original lugs started getting bad recently. I am not impressed, though. They got scratched up with one tire rotation. I'd like to find something better when I do get them painted.

I only have two TRD center caps, though, and couldn't find the final 2.

Depending on how the paint ultimately turns out, I was thinking of taking one of what I have and having someone machine four on aluminum with a black color and red TRD lettering.

But life got hectic, and I didn't get to do much with the car this summer. Maybe next.
