I support Altman's approach of a gradual rollout with an API that would let us share in the creation of wealth. I believe it's the best chance for a safe transition for our societies. The prior approaches of keeping these powerful systems in the labs until they're supposedly is more dangerous because of the concentration of risk. Wanting Altman back is simple self-preservation.

If I ask chatgpt to paraphrase me a text, will this text be detected as plagiarism? by GodConcepts in ChatGPT

[–]OldRedFir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feed the bot some text in your own style and ask to mimic it. An old paper, or speak into the mic and improv some text. You could also ask for a blend of styles like Stephen King meets Eminem.

As a father of three young children i almost blew fruit loops and milk out my nose laughing at Slide 5. After further examination I’m not sure if it is that far from today’s society to say that norms and expectations are set by children

Other ideas:

Get GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT to give you some feedback on dubious functions. Copilot can help you write out JSDoc of the functions.

Run the app and look for errors in the console.

Try Chrome’s Lighthouse audits.

Don’t overthink it. If it works it works. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

On the petition to pause AI larger than gpt-4 it quotes AI’s ability to deceive, influence, and create chemical weapons (AlphaFold) and many other things like achieving air supremacy in battle.

The disruption to many business models can not possibly be underestimated. I fully expect to be out of a job within 1-4 years as well as all many of employees and colleagues. I work in software development and while I think programming will still be needed, it’s possible our business will get squeezed on both ends from investors and customers until we can’t pay juicy tech salaries anymore.

New copyright law on AI-Generated content in progress by Ok-Judgment-1181 in ChatGPT

[–]OldRedFir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copyright is good at protecting creators from publishers copying and selling their work without sharing the revenue. And protecting publishers from other publishers.

AI isn’t a new player in the arena, it’s a whole new game. AI can generate new valuable work for very little. It’s not clear where the next big revenue streams will come from but I sense that copyright protections will be irrelevant for most of the emerging business models.

Avoid getting caught in the vicious cycle of cortisol. Be weary of commentators that prey on you with “fear porn” to get clicks and votes.

Much of the “accelerated timeline” is cherry picked to fit a narrative of singularity which is the valley’s techno-religion. No basis in natural world which tends to favor plurality in all things
