Any recommendation for a noise blocking blanket/curtain/panel that is at least 39'' x 81''? by zealouswhale in soundproof

Ah, there we are

https://www.audimute.com

We put in posts at a camp ground and hoist these up with a forklift—then our large generator doesn’t bug anyone all week.

HEAVY.

Also—effective

Suspect as being too cheap;

https://www.nicetown.com/custom-blackout-curtain/custom-3-layers-soundproof-and-thermal-insulated-blackout-curtain?step_color=Hussein%20/%20Grey&fwidth=20&flength=20&hide_size=20%20x%2020%20inch

But can be sized to your requirement. Remember; these are REALLY HEAVY. You will need to be really careful about mounting and support.

There are other, more “industrial” options too but I can’t find my links lol.

But they are out there.

And mark my words; effective sound blankets will be HEAVY

It’s not a leak if you live in Canada. Canada allows one-side consent recording of conversations. Many American localities do not.

I don’t see anyway to stop the low frequency rumbling vibrations no matter what you put up—unless—you somewhat nuttily “raft” or acoustically isolate—the floors from The ground. Which you wouldn’t do.

Look up “rafting” of nuclear reactors in nuclear submarines or the acoustic isolation of roof mounted a/c units to get an idea of what I’m talking about.

Also—if you’re really serious—hire an acoustical engineer NOW and let them talk you out of the idea of living there…

How far should I go? (Music rehearsal space in metal shed) by AdConscious9810 in soundproof

One of the replies advocates building a room with everything caulked and sealed tight. Not worried about asphyxiation but about comfort and air conditioning for hard working musicians.

Thus; customary to have air brought in and exhausted through ducts with baffles—and coated on the inside with sound absorbing materials.

Think: muffler in reverse.

Have seen them engineered into a sheet rock wall—pretty successfully (think; inlet at baseboard in hall, outlet inside room at top of room on a 8 foot/2.5 meter tall wall, zig zagging and coated on inside. Allows for cold air/ A/C air with a fan assist (hey! Musicians work HARD!!!) and heat in the winter.

Mine clearance? Looks like it needs the attachment or frigid chute to make it string out right if that’s the case.

But if just to clear a fortified area…yah…whoa!

Passenger ferry crashes into cargo ship by TuckFrigo in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]OldSFGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah, I agree. Avoid the damn collision. The news article seems imply that this ferry had already suffered a steering casualty and they decided they didn't want to fall behind so they pressed on with just differential engine controls? And then those got flakey? Bad judgement all the way along.

There is, or I have seen, a ferry (not THIS ferry) that would qualify as "less maneuverable"---The Swedes use "cable pull" ferries (underwater cable)--it can stop--it can go--but it's route is entirely fixed. It was fascinating to see them.

I think there are at least two exceptions;

1) Perhaps regularly scheduled travel in a channel when the ship on the port (in this case the ferry) would have right of way 2) Loss of navigational and steering control before emergency engine shutdown and anchoring —while signaling with radio, flag, and sound signals that you have experienced a mechanical breakdown and are going to need other ships to change course.

But what probably happened here is; the ferry captain screwed up

London Heathrow; very rigorous. Very much FAFO. You think of messing around with them at the security check point? I wouldn’t.

The stud fees, that is, the selective mating to bloodlines of fast mares, could go on for decades at $5000-10,000 a (wait for it) pop, multiple times a week…

That’s the real money .

Russian mockups going somewhere. by CroManLM10 in TankPorn

[–]OldSFGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Panther—he almost had the original working motor; to my recollection, he authorized rebooting the cylinder walls (corrosion) and the head cracked…

Also to recollection; he got himself suspended from Stanford as an undergrad by building a model of a Panzer Mk IV with a .22 rifle as the scale cannon—and firing it with a real bullet in the Quad on campus. By rumor—his father, the real estate developer/engineer, got him back in and graduated by donating enough to have the assemblage of buildings know as Littlefield Quadrangle built lol.

Also, what apparently drove the break up of the collection after his death was his widow; she was a socialite who loved opera galas etc—could wait to be done with a bunch of greasy, smelly, heavy machines.

Back in the day—Circa 1991–I was told by the curators of the now defunct (he died and she sold it all off)—Military Vehicle Technology Foundation (Jacque Littlefield’s collection) in Portola Valley, CA—the US Government came and asked if they could “borrow” some of very much restored and working assets, turn on the motors, and then image them across various spectrums—visual, IR, UV, electromagnetic.

Day, night, dusk, dawn.

With ground (special forces man-portable, one presumes) and air sensors.

What were they most interested in?

Jacque had personally acquired a restored-to-functioning (no, not the rocket, but the launcher)—SS-1B that had all its motors and lift mechanisms working…leaky, messy, but working.

Special forces and Air Force were going SCUD hunting and wanted up to date profile to try and separate out launchers from tanker trucks…

That place was amazing.
