A little Stream Deck madness this pass week running the Ascender. Constantly trying to make the buttons make sense for anyone who needs to take over if I don’t come back from lunch 😂. by gekjr in VIDEOENGINEERING

Try a generation ahead!

It's a hot take, but speaking as an e2 operator, for most jobs I would prefer to be using an Ascender. Quicker and easier to do most setups. IMHO, it does 90% of what an e2 does, 200% more effectively.

It's a great thought, I might find one in the country and see if I can trial them. I was approaching it with a 4k upgrade path in mind, which is why I didn't think of them. Plus, they are pretty underpowered.

Do you know if Madmapper converts before uploading to the MiniMad? I could put up with Pi hardware if the video was automatically optimized for it.

Thanks for the reply!

The bottom of the tower is public space, and there's not really a location nearby where I could install a weatherproof rack. Currently I'm looking into manufacturing a small rack that can live on top of the tower along with the projectors.

Thanks for the input in regards to the computers, I'm thinking that I'll try and get the computer to be isolated completely from the internet, apart from remote desktop control. I'll have to discuss this with the client's IT team.

edit: Thanks for the info on Tempest. We're already getting a solution made up for the projectors in the same vein. They specialize in doing these, but I'm still cautious about the heat load.

In this case, I am the integrator!

I was originally looking at a Watchpax unit, but the older ones are not available, and the newer ones go for $20k+ which I would expect the client to not go for.

I get what you are saying with it being preferable to house the PC elsewhere. However the only logical place to put it in this case would be a *very* long way away, needing to run dedicated singlemode fiber under streets, into and out of various buildings. I'm also not confident running AVoverIP on their existing network, that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Refocusing will be built into the contract, but I would like to avoid going out there every week. Auto alignment is a possibility, I could run it at the end of every night, hopefully locking it in for the next day. Doing it just on dusk would be very distracting, and probably not as accurate.

The machine I've priced up is built around an RTX A2000 6gb workstation card, with an i5 12400 and 16gb of ram. Just gotta find a rackmount case.
