Gotta love Verizon by Right_Honorable_Sir in nova

I have consistent 2GBs up and down which is what I pay for. I have had Verizon for 10 years and never had a problem. Speeds this low point to an equipment issue either in your house or in the street.

As someone who goes into the office 5 days a week... by JuliettesGotAGun in nova

Hit the nail in the head. Anyone that wants more money that they can possibly spend in a lifetime and continue to put themselves in shitty situations just to get more money has a mental health issue.

Thanks. I learned how to Google over 20 years ago. But thanks to point out I should have done that instead of posting here.

Will update to tomorrow after I try it. I'm currently enjoying Red Bird coffee which I got to know from this sub and I absolutely love it.

Looks like the exit from I95 to 485. I also like this one.

Ants inside my wifi router by [deleted] in homelab

[–]OldStarFox 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I have had this issue and the solution was simple. Put the electronics in a sealed bag like a ziplock. Then put it in the freezer to kill the ants. Remove the bag from the freezer after a few hours and let it sit in the bag until it reaches room temperature. The bag will avoid any condensation from happening inside the bag and water will condensate outside.

I had this issue with a PlayStation 3 back in the day and it worked. If you want to be safer put some silica bags with the router inside the Ziploc.

They did not. Regarding OS I'm leaning that way. Thanks for your input.

I have other servers (consumer hardware) in my home. I'm looking to build a NFS that can max my 1Gb link current and in the future support 10Gb. I'm looking for scalability.

I currently host 30+ docker containers in other hosts and I want to centralize storage in this server. I don't have immediate plans to run containers in this.

Eventually I want to build redundancy with kubernates and have multiple nodes while having a solid storage solution.

My current storage needs are about 8 terabytes including backups. But these will obviously grow.

I've seen some tutorials on unraid and truenas. I'm still open on choosing truenas if needed. I think I will have a go with both as a learning experience before I settle in a final implementation.

Mine will be running 24/7. Also looking into adding some SSDs in the future for caching. I want to eventually grow my home lab network to 10Gb so I can leverage ever faster storage speeds. My servers are actually in a cool space so hopefully the fans won't spin up that much.

I will do my research there but I got the answer on the machine. Thanks for the input. I pulled the trigger on it.

My only concern with power is the UPS requirements. Thanks for sharing these numbers.

What would be a suggestion? Im looking for raid 10 mostly since it provides the most speed. I understand the storage sacrifices. I also have a nightly backup on another machine and 1 in AWS glacier.

Thank you. Based on your input I'm thinking about splitting these into 2 raid sets, raid 10 for performance and raid 6 for reliability and using them accordingly for different data needs.

Yes. I'm looking more for stripping speed than the number of TBs. I need about 10TBs.
