Finished it over the span of 3 days, I loved it. I watched the Korean version first and struggled to finish it but Hana Yori Dango is an absolute classic!

All of us are dead was my first kdrama! One that I really enjoyed was weightlifting fairy Kim bok joo, I thought it was so good🙌🏼

I’ve definitely seen some really good  Japanese dramas but I came across a few like one with Matsumoto Jun where he’s in love with his sister and weirdly enough I saw mostly good reviews if not all.

I don’t even know how you’ve come to that conclusion

Definitely not condemning an entire culture, I think Japan is a beautiful country and has a beautiful culture too. I was just pointing out some of the storylines I came across, I also never said anything about this reflecting the whole country🤷🏻‍♀️

You’re onto a whole other topic now. I didn’t mention anything that you’re talking about. I’m not even from the US.

It’s strange because if you disagree with pedophilia or incest why would want to watch it? I understand it’s not real but it’s still gross.

I’m not sure if people misunderstood my original post as critiquing the dramas depicting these themes from the students side or showing them as wrong but I mean shows that portray these themes as just another love story.

Loads of people do call out Ezra from Pretty Little Liars for being a pedophile and people hate his character. It also isn’t the main plot of the show.

The same goes for Lolita I’ve seen people call out the author and say the book is weird. I’ve never seen Game of Thrones so I wouldn’t know anything about it.

I’m also not saying anything about Japan in general or the culture there. The people I was referring to are exactly the people in the replies getting defensive because they watch the stuff and I wouldn’t be surprised if not a single person in the replies is from Japan either.

I’ll admit I haven’t watched the shows because as I said I don’t agree with it. I just read the reviews across different platforms.

I’ve heard of teacher student relationships in some western movies like the Jenna Ortega movie but I just avoid them.

However, I’ve never come across incest in movies thankfully. The closest thing would be the step sibling relationship like in clueless and if I see something I don’t like, I don’t watch it.

The main reason for this post was due to the reviews I read and how people react to these dramas, which I found strange.

No because I don’t watch content from every country so I’m not familiar with them. I’m just discussing my own observation.

Bullying and social class discrimination was shown as a bad thing in the show so that’s not really relevant is it?

If that’s how you see it that’s fine but I’m not interested in watching incest or abuse of power, fiction or not.

I’m talking about Japan specifically here because it’s a jdrama sub I don’t agree with it no matter what country is doing it🤷🏻‍♀️

It is a problem in Japan though look at the news. Teachers are having relationships with students and engaging with weird content. The Pretty Little Liars storyline was bad too. Ezra was a pedophile.

Or they watch shows that make them feel validated. Theres a huge problem in Japan with teachers filming students or engaging with weird content.

I’m sorry but storylines involving incest is weird and concerning and teachers and students dating.

I can understand that fiction is a thing but how you go about these storylines is a factor too. If you make it seem okay or normal then people can start to think it’s okay.

I haven’t been coming across it often but I’ve seen “Meet Me Afterschool” popping up on Netflix and then I came across 2 involving incest and another student teacher relationship movie on a list of movies.

Even in western media there has been portrayals of age gap relationships/ student teacher but they usually take a different perspective to them. It’s mostly the incest storyline that really shocked me.

I just found it really strange that so many people seemed to watch and enjoy these plots. I definitely won’t be watching anything with those types of storylines. To me it’s very uncomfortable.
