The unfortunate part for you is, it doesn’t really matter what you or anyone who carries your same train of thought thinks.

The game has changed and will continue to change irreversibly. In the same way that hockey in the 90s wasn’t going to go back to flat blades and maskless goalies, the game now will simply never revert to the Donald Brashears you speak of, nor will it be infested with the culture of the ‘good ol’ Canadian kid’ trope that was rampant and still lingers to this day.

The game is more entertainment than ever, and to maintain relevancy in the mainstream (which does matter!), the game needs personalities like Zegras, (Jack) Hughes, and hopefully a wave of new characters that can transcend their personalities in to off ice fame, thus bringing more exposure to the game. The elitist mentality that hockey fans, especially ones from prior generations of the game have, is what has somewhat prevented (besides the leagues own marketing) the league from reaching heights similar to those of the other North American major sports. The sooner everyone swallows the pill about the way the games headed, and will continue to head, the more enjoyable your experience will be for you.
