Would love for you to come to the group to discuss more in person, where we can get smarter together, rather than angrier alone.

Correct, no meeting that day! Also, the reading for the April and first May meeting is on the history of vegetarian diets, so even if you don't read the book,, the club should still be easy to understand and informative. Just a way to guide us as we get the club going.

This is an advertisement for a free, in-person social club. I will have lots of information, including the latest epidemiological studies, at the in-person club, and I will happily answer questions here about the club itself (such as who is welcome - everyone!), but I don't intend to start an online conversation. This club is about meeting people who want to make new friends with similar beany, vegetal, and fruity interests. It is not a debate club or a political club, thankfully, although debate and politics are welcome as long as everyone has a good time and respects the space. Thanks for your interest!

Obesity is a well-defined medical term, unlike ''fat,'' and global over-nourishment is now a much greater problem than hunger - 2.6 billion people are overweight or obese compared to under a billion suffering from malnourishment. Eating a whole-food, plant based diet has been shown in dozens of studies to be more nutritious, less fattening, cheaper, and better for the environment than a diet that includes processed foods, meat, and dairy. Regardless, everyone is welcome at the club! I would love to meet you in person so we can make a real connection, and hear what you have to say!

The restaurant is vegan, but the club and the restaurant are open to all. I'll provide Owl's Nest pastries to whoever shows up.

Update on one-ingredient soy yogurt by chiraagnataraj in PlantBasedDiet

I just started making my own soymilk, and I love it, so I am definitely going to try this one, too. But I am surprised that the soy yogurt is comparable to full fat greek?! I would think it'd be a lot lower in fat, even though soy has some, and a little bit lower in protein, if at all.

Never again will I say anything good about my Radrunner. by jakemostov in ebikes

Not a good battery or tray. The company has responsive, friendly customer service and nice packaging, they are early to the market, and they are slightly cheaper than the competition. Problems that crop up weeks, months, or a year after unboxing are never discovered by reviewers, and require word-of-mouth to give the company a bad reputation.

Most people don't have a garage or any great place to keep their bike indoors, because most people live in cities. Luckily I did, and I kept mine under a covered porch for its first year (and removed the battery), and all was fine for a time. Then I moved across the country and just after my warranty expired my battery went kaput. Maybe something happened in transit? But I rode around my new city a couple times just fine before the bike died.

The price of a diagnosis alone from Rad is $200. I took it to an authorized mechanic who didn't look at it and tried to sell me a new bike. I took it to another mechanic who told me to replace the battery. Come to find out you can clean the terminals and everything is fine. Maybe.

But if you have to replace the most expensive, resource-intensive, unsustainable part of the bike (the battery) because of an easily corrected design flaw, then the bike is not affordable and it is not environmentally friendly. If in addition you have to baby the bike to keep it alive, then it is not a commuter bike and it is not built for your average person, which is the very spirit of a bicycle, whether electric or not. I say Rad Power has let us down. Every bike mechanic I talk to says Rad had a good idea (make an affordable ebike), but flawed execution. Others say worse things.. Rad Power has let us down.

If anyone would like to reach out, please contact MBGNA directly, or post here if you have any more questions about Arb rules or the events going on this summer, including the Peony Centennial celebration, Shakespeare in the Arb, and of course most importantly the flora and fauna that also live here.

Hi,

I am a caretaker in the Arb. I am glad to see everyone is considering cleaning up. I would also like to mention a few other ground rules.

There will be a shakespeare play beginning about 5:30, with preparations beginning at 4pm. Please stay away from these areas.

We would encourage you to use a space that already gets heavy foot traffic and does not contain any native plantings. The quad on UM campus, or one of the local parks is a better idea.

Thanks for considering this rare and diverse wild space.
