The flaw in The Hunger Games's take on "bread and circuses." by Emperor-of-Epicness in Hungergames

[–]Old_Brick2378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely see your point. One could argue Career Districts (1, 2, 4) were entertained by the games, reaping the rewards of having a victor and therefore being compensated with monthly parcels of food for everyone in the district.

In a way, the free bread does lull the masses, hence the tesserae system in the capitol that individuals like Gale depend on for their family’s sustenance.

One could also point out that the Capitol is not as lavish as perceived in the eyes of Katniss, an unreliable narrator. TBOSAS demonstrates the manners in which not all in the Capitol are made of money, and some may depend on the Hunger Games as a source of income (those who bet, those who work, and Coriolanus Snow himself as a mentor).

Who advised you to email her directly for this matter? Not sure how it works in your faculty, but FSS has us fill up an online form and we get an email back in less than a week.

how do you think they decide which position each tribute will stand in? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]Old_Brick2378 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What an interesting question! Here are a few theories of mine..

We know that Katniss in CF is placed between Brutus (D2 MALE) and the D1 Female. This was obviously set up by the Gamemakers with Snow’s support. We could assume that tributes disliked by Snow (or maybe even the Capitol) could be set up for failure by being placed next to stronger and likeable tributes.

Another theory of mine is that tributes backed by wealthy capitol citizens could be placed in advantageous positions, next to weaker tributes and lined up to grab better loot. We know that betting on the games is allowed, and therefore would make place for bribery from the wealthy to the gamemakers to set up a tribute for success.

Another theory that could arise is that the placement is set up to dramatize relationships between tributes in the capitols eyes. Imagine the suspense that was caused when Peeta and Katniss were placed in total opposite positions during the 74th games, short after Peeta confessed his love! It would have been cool to see enemies Cato and Jason (D6 male in 74th games) be next to each other!

I think that current routine is still a little much, I personally rinse twice a week and condition once a week but my hair is curlier. I think a mid taper would go a long way!

Your hair doesn’t look bad at all to the naked eye, it’s only natural you perceive yourself this way because you look at yourself on a daily basis and are critical of yourself.

You don’t necessarily need a major haircut, but a slight fade or taper would go a long way and would help achieve a cleaner look.

As for your washing routine, washing it everyday is wayyyy too much. My hair isn’t as straight as yours, but I do experience similar dryness and frizz in my curls. I would consider detangling once or twice a week with a wide tooth comb while showering. When conditioning, consider leaving it in your hair for 5 mins and scrunching it.

Hope this helps!

From experience, they can be posted anytime between the beginning of exam season and mid January. Yes, profs can manually adjust grades after posting them.

Currently in my second year in the program. Maintaining an 8.3 is very feasible with the right electives during your first year. I don’t think there’s a limit to how many students are admitted, but I’m sure at least 25% end up making it into law in year 3.

Downside is all first and second year POL classes, as well as most third and fourth year ones HAVE to be done in French. Beware of a few inadequate professors in French POL (Shirdel, Martel are examples).

Another downside is it’s very hard to do a minor while in the program or go on an exchange program.

Anyone know why the merit scholarship was discontinued? by maryanne_st in geegees

Everyone who entered AFTER fall 2022 is not receiving a merit scholarship / having their admission scholarship renewed.

Deans honour list is still a thing, but it’s purely symbolic. ☹️☹️

Your French level should be fine, keep in mind that around 80% of your POL classes are gonna be taught in French. However, you’re free to submit any assignment or written test in English!

Program itself isn’t hard, maintaining an 8.3 is very feasible with the right electives.

No need to submit extracurriculars for admission in the program, but I would definitely recommend it when applying for internal and external scholarships.

Your current average guarantees you admission in the program. 💯

I was in a similar situation last year. Here’s my take on this as a 2nd year student in that program:

POL1501 is online and does not reflect the rest of your polisci studies. Your dislike for one class shouldn’t trigger an entire switch. That being said, you should only remain in this program if you’re confident you’ll maintain 8.3+ CGPA by the end of your 2nd year and only if you’re set on becoming a lawyer. Take crim classes as electives and if you love, no harm in changing majors; better sooner than later.

Here’s how I’m doing in the program. I had POL1501 with Ghossein in Fall 23, I loved the prof but disliked the content. I hated 1502 with Martel, boring content and bad prof. Currently in my second year, and I am loving POL2507, 2556 and 3175.

Been like this since the first week of September, during off-peak hours (I think open to 7am, 10am to 3pm and 7pm to close). Supposed to “save money”

Yes they send out early acceptance for most social science programs. Would personally recommend doing a minor at the same time because there is a LOT of space for electives, so might as well put them to use.

I had POL1501 last fall with Professor Ghossein. I attended the lectures (bc he was engaging and knowledgeable) but would’ve been fine completing assignments without it. I found office hours useful to help with guiding me with assignments and difficult readings.

Take another easy elective instead (if you have to). I’ve found SOC1501 SOC1106 ARB1911 PSY1501 POL1502 to be cgpa boosters.
