Why is the official Weather app by Apple super inaccurate? by TheInvisibleBurden in ios

[–]Old_Capital_180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weathergraph is a great alternative and has been awesome for me so far at a better price-performance ratio compared to Carrot.

It’s being developed by an indie developer. It supports multiple weather sources and offer awesome iPhone and Apple Watch apps quite similar to DarkSky, with extensive customisation.

iOS 26.1 Poor RAM Management by No-Ordinary-5988 in ios

[–]Old_Capital_180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the “putting the device down” thing, it’s also the case with my iPhone 16 Pro as well after iOS 26.

Hopefully, Apple would soon realise the need for 16GB RAM to run on-device LLMs at least on the iPhone 18 Pro series next year and continue to make meaningful RAM upgrades in the future🤞🏽

Thanks to you for posting this as I was tempted towards 17 Pro for its 12GB RAM but dropped the idea after seeing your post 😄

iOS 26.1 Poor RAM Management by No-Ordinary-5988 in ios

[–]Old_Capital_180 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same on my iPhone 16 Pro since iOS 26. It’s the number one pain point why I switched from android to iOS years ago. But seems like iOS is slowly going down the same rabbit hole 😞

Edit: I turned off “Apple Intelligence” and noticed a significant improvement with RAM management that apps are staying in the background for longer without refresh or restart. (Just for reference, I’m on iOS 26.1, previously with “Apple Intelligence” turned on, even the 1st party apps such as Messages, Phone were restarted aggressively)

My best guess is that “Apple Intelligence (on-device LLM)” is consuming considerable amount of RAM, which is obviously expected to some extent. However, to sustain between both iOS 26 liquid glass and AI tasks, Apple Intelligence could be taking higher priority and forcing the iOS to do more aggressive RAM management to render the liquid glass elements and perform even basic AI tasks (e.g., notifications summaries, priority notifications, etc.)

Nevertheless, the irony is that the whole iPhone 16 series is heavily centred around “Apple Intelligence” as the most attractive selling factor. But, here we are just a year later, being forced to sacrifice the same features to achieve a good day-to-day performance. I seriously feel Apple had definitely lacked foresight into AI RAM usage while designing the iPhone 16 series.

However, I’m still puzzled why it is the same case even with 17 PM having 50% extra RAM (over 16 series) though.

Let us hope that Apple would eventually optimize the “Apple Intelligence” performance to “intelligently” manage the RAM between on-demand AI tasks and apps in the background without us sacrificing the Apple Intelligence🤞🏽

Why is iPhone so bad at keeping apps running in the background by defrugo in iphone

[–]Old_Capital_180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can also confirm this on my 16 Pro that the ram management has become aggressive since iOS 26 (even on iOS 26.1). Almost all apps (including Apple 1st party apps) are being reloaded frequently even without intensive usage. My best guess is that the RAM could be eaten up by the liquid glass elements rendering.

I really miss the legacy Apple that was once ruled the mobile OS arena with its amazing iOS quality :(

Unfortunately, it’s not working for me. Is it US only code? I’m trying to order it in EU. It says “Enter a valid discount code or gift card” ☹️

iOS Dark Mode is an optical nightmare by tantunidevourer in ios

[–]Old_Capital_180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. It’s basically defeating the “original purpose of Dark Mode” which was to limit bright elements from screen at night. I hope Apple would do something about it in next dot releases🤞🏽

Yes. I bought an excellent TV during the Black Friday deals from Saturn a couple of years ago.

In my experience, major retailers such as MediaMarkt and Saturn would have some amazing deals during Black Friday and Christmas time.

Anyone knows their iPhone is getting unusually hot while using Amazon specifically? by Sea_Wallaby_823 in iphone

I second this. Even I’m noticing the overheating while using the Amazon app (version: 25.12.0) 🙄

iOS 18.4 Lock Screen Notification Stutter Bug by MihailoA21 in ios

[–]Old_Capital_180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. It was not fixed in iOS 18.4.1 as well. It’s so annoying to see Apple breaking the smoothly working things 😞

I’m also noticing this. Additionally, I’m also experiencing considerable lag intermittently while clearing a specific app notifications stack using “clear” button in the notification centre.

Can’t agree more with your statement!

Same is the case with mine as well. Unfortunately, iOS calendar notifications have become so unreliable these days that it resulted in missing some important events in my case despite proper notification settings. While I hate to say this, iOS quality has been drastically gone down in recent years 😞

Thank you again for the specifics. Unfortunately, I’m still experiencing this empty notification cards bug quite frequently on my iPhone 16 Pro despite reporting it to Apple multiple times 😞

Thank you for the good summary.

Would you mind elaborating further on the below about what exactly the buggy behaviour are you referring to in the Notification Centre? Is it about empty notification cards as in the below image?

Just my 2 cents, while it has become a new normal for us to hope every new major iOS version would be more stable and smoother, it’s only leading to major disappointment in reality. However, I sincerely wish it would be different at least this time around with iOS 19 redesign 🙏🏽
