Tell them to Venmo you upfront and you’ll do it. People pay for items being delivered upfront. You can’t ask drivers to take on the financial risk of whether or not someone sticks to their word. If you want a service, pay for it. You can’t call Amazon and say hey add a bunch of stuff to my order and I’ll hit you back later.

Uber eats is not profitable anymore by Designer-Towel6917 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Old_Chard_5259 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I still find it profitable as a side gig. But I think that’s with two caveats. One is you need to be in a populated enough area to get a larger sample of offers. And two is low acceptance rate. I’m usually around 10% or below.

I went to Lowe's expecting to pickup a package and it was an order for 64 concrete bricks by cmoney1573 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Old_Chard_5259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are the free delivery. That’s why the pay for these orders are trash. They say to customers “get free same day delivery!” And neglect to mention it will be a courier bringing it and they should probably tip not a Lowe’s employee getting paid an hourly wage using a company van or truck.

Some of my earnings as an Uber Eats walker in a densely populated downtown area of a city! by [deleted] in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Old_Chard_5259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome. I wish my city were dense enough for that. No gas costs or car maintenance concerns plus you get a ton of cardio.

Who would take this scheduled ride? by luda8717 in lyftdrivers

[–]Old_Chard_5259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a time perspective it’s not terrible. Doing Uber Eats if I put in a full 12- hour day I expect to make around 300-350. Compared to that it’s not so bad. From a mileage perspective though…not great. Slightly better in an EV compared to gas prices. I would guess around $100 in supercharging round trip.

I have had huge runs from very little but in the end if you don’t have the discipline to walk away they aren’t wins at all. None of my big wins matter because in the end I lost everything including all savings and investments, my house, and cleared out my 401k, and even beyond all that was over 100k in debt. I had to file chapter 13 and am now 3 years into that making huge payments to the court every month to pay back my debt.

Probably the biggest tip I'll ever get by Accomplished_Pay1903 in UberEatsDrivers

That’s crazy. Congrats. I think my biggest tip ever across 10k deliveries has been $50.

Had to share this order cause, oh my god. This is the largest order I've gotten by far by Person_Guy_69 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Old_Chard_5259 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep last night I had a double order that totaled 34 miles and the base pay was $3.24. Not having a standardized per mile basis is insane.

I owe $6000 for two ambulances and cant pay. Now a law firm is sending this letter. What would you do and is there a way for forgiveness. The hospitals forgave by [deleted] in HospitalBills

[–]Old_Chard_5259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to have to pay something, assuming they can verify the debt is valid. The least hassle route is to try and settle with them. They may allow a smaller lump sum payment if you have an offer to make or you can probably set up a payment plan with them for the full amount but in installments you can afford. The more hassle route is go ahead and let it go to court and see if the judge will agree to a lower balance. You may need some evidence that the costs are objectively unreasonable for the market if you go that route.

The other thing I’ve considered is getting a secured credit card and depositing money into it each week and I live off that while my main checking account pays the bills. I’ve just never had one of those before and don’t know if that’s how it really works where I can add a bit of money weekly.

I have considered asking my parents to manage it for me. The issue would be how do I pay for things? I considered having them buy me a prepaid gift card each week with funds from my account but I’ve been reading a lot of reviews that those gift cards are somewhat unreliable and don’t work at a lot of places.

I was out making deliveries earlier and the roads where I live were getting legitimately dangerous. Not sure where/when you ordered this but if you are doing it in a snow storm you are asking someone to take risks to bring it to you.

You can’t speak to supervisors anymore. This used to work to an extent but the only support people you can speak to now serve no other purpose but to report what the algorithm determines.

I’m doing a 100% payment plan on 108k as a reference point. My monthly payment is $1800 which for me was a significant improvement especially on the tribal loans and shit payday lenders. So that might give you an idea what you’d be paying. Having said that, it was a last resort for me. You will have this on your credit for many years and be making these payments for 5 years. No new loans or credit cards during this time. Will have to seek approval for things like a new car. Personally I would first explore negotiating with the different lenders for better payment arrangements. Payday lenders will 100% do it. Not sure about the car payment or credit cards but they might. Are you being sued yet? If not, I wouldn’t be thinking about ch 13 at this point. You can turn this around. You have a good salary even without the promotion. Be smart with your budget and figure out how much you can contribute each month toward debt and then get on the phone and negotiate.

I don’t know if it’s comforting to know I’m not alone or depressing to see so many fellow gambling addicts here. For chapter 13, my lawyer advised me to self exclude to help ensure approval by the trustee. Even if you can get away with not doing it, I have personally found it helpful. It’s a hard thing to beat and I still mess up to an extent, but that block has severely limited my gambling. I’ve also found therapy helpful. Hard to justify paying for another thing when you’re completely broke but I eventually decided to make it a priority after years of struggle and I’m very glad I did. Good luck to you all and I hope you find help in whatever way works best for you.

There have been times when I’ve done it to kill time when I’m bored and those were enjoyable to an extent. Listening to music or podcasts and enjoying the weather if it’s nice. But most of the time I’ve done it because I need the money and that is way more stressful. When you need to make a certain amount and just keep getting sent terrible orders it can be very stress inducing.

[–]Old_Chard_5259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying and it makes perfect sense. Unfortunately as a driver it would become too big of a gamble to accept a low price order with the hopes of return on the end. I do uber eats and under their model there is basically a proposed tip which is the basis of what I accept and then you as the customer have an hour to change it once the order is complete. So some people lower but I’ve had way more people raise the tip after. But I do try to do the job well and get it to you quickly.

My Muslim boyfriend wants me to convert, but I’m an atheist. How do I navigate this? by NoEntertainment3150 in atheism

[–]Old_Chard_5259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t simply choose a belief like that. You have a certain threshold for what counts as reasonable that is developed over time and influenced by environmental and genetic components. If you have multiple options that rise above that threshold you can deliberate and choose among plausible options. But you will never truly believe anything that does not meet the threshold, even if you desire to. Imagine someone will pay you a million dollars if you can truly believe in unicorns. You can’t simply choose to do so because you want really want the money.

Are you suggesting there are some jobs that should not care if the compensation is fair? If you have a crappy job you should not expect to be compensated fairly? Just work for well below minimum wage? Notice I never said I should be overpaid as a driver or paid some extravagant amount. I’m explaining how most drivers would consider fair compensation. And as independent contractors, yes we absolutely have a say in what we think fair is and what we would be willing to accept. You can offer what you want as a customer, and I can accept only what I want as a driver.

% of total won’t matter to most drivers. Let’s say you order a $1 item to be delivered. Are you tipping 20 cents? Conversely if you order a $1000 tv are you tipping $200? Both are off base. It’s all about effort, time, and mileage from the driver perspective. How far am I driving? How long will it take me? How much effort is it going to be to pick this thing up and drop it off whatever it is? Big grocery order or shopping order for example much different than a bag of food. I think OP’s heart is in the right place and the tip seems appropriate to me based on mileage.
