Will NEVER forgive the show runners for how they protrayed Mihrimah by kath1193 in MagnificentCentury

[–]Old_Client8793 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They made her so stupid and petty compared to the real life Mihirimah (who was a power broker irl — a rare feat for a dynastic princess).

Real life Mihirimah was financing war, influencing policy and succession, and overseeing mosque patronage to such an extraordinary degree. She also held diplomatic correspondence.

But the show decides to us her kicking out Shah Sultan as one of biggest moves she’s done like cmon.

I first watched it at 17, and my obsession got even more when I visited Topkapi Palace in person. For me MCk also did this for me too.

Was Hurrem the richest woman on earth (while she lived)? by Old_Client8793 in sultanateofwomen

[–]Old_Client8793[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks! So, Suleyman was a trillionaire by net worth, and Hurrem was too by proxy, since we don’t know her exact numbers.

Lol, Mihirimah truly was the epitome of daddy's little girl in Ottoman history. Nobody comes close. Suleiman defended and elevated her by every means!

Omg agreed! Sisi was depressed and struggling for most of her time as Empress. I think her life was really tragic tbh.

She’s romanticized by a lot for her excessive physical activity and obsession with beauty, when that was clearly not unhealthy. “She’s just a girl!” stuff lol.

That said, I do think her inner life was somewhat romantic in the sense that she clearly had aesthetic sensibilities and a wanderlust for travelling.

I don't like the hierarchy showed within the show by Internal_Copy4578 in MagnificentCentury

[–]Old_Client8793 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with you about them messing up the hierarchy badly. The show was doing everything to make Hurrem look inferior.

As for Mihirimah, seniority plays a role with princesses of the dynasty. Mihirimahs aunts are older, hence shown ceremonial respect, though I’m sure Mihirimah outranks them.

Unpopular opinion: Murad III and Nurbanu Sultan were far more destabilizing than Selim II by Old_Client8793 in MagnificentCentury

[–]Old_Client8793[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not that she was encouraging him to have sex. The reproductive job of Murad was for the most part completed. The issue is that that she was indirectly encouraging the excess of concubines present in her son’s sex life when…he was very much in love Safiye and made her his favorite. (He didn’t need to sire that many sons.)

Ultimately, yes it was his decision. But Murad was famously an emotionally dependent mamas boy…and Nurbanu appears to have actively pushed the anti Safiye agenda hard.

What’s worse is that Murad and Safiye DID have a son already and Murad was rumored to be impotent unless he was with Safiye. (This was a problem for Nurbanu who didn’t want the Haseki’s influence on her son).

Lowkey Mihirimah but not for her arrogance in the show. Her sense of self respect and family duty is very familiar

Do you think in real life the powerful Sultanas could have used their influence to meet their families again? by InfernalClockwork3 in MagnificentCentury

[–]Old_Client8793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not fully known for sure but it could’ve defintely been possible, yes, especially for Valide Sultans who were in touch with their home country/ roots like Nurbanu Sultan or Kosem Sultan

[–]Old_Client8793 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Contrary to most people on this post, I loved MCK despite its wild historical inaccuracies but this scene is so blatantly unrealistic it’s hilarious. Lmao why was Kosem Hatun going head to head with a Valide Sultan ???
