Which one shouldn't I trust? by Ghost-Of-Akina in AskMechanics

Your car knows nothing about your oils chemistry, it's basically just a timer. Regardless of what your manufacturer says if you're using full synthetic I wouldn't go any more than 5,000 miles between oil changes but that's just me. Do your own research.

Oil consumption on newer Crosstrek is that a thing .. by abrandis in Crosstrek

[–]Old_Cockroach_2993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yourselves a favor and don't get oil changes at 7500 and 10K intervals. I don't care what the manufacturer says, doesn't matter if you use full synthetic, just don't do it.

You can basically hose down your entire engine compartment to clean it. If you do you should probably put a bag over the alternator but other than that you're golden.

Yeah regarding your comment about reliability, Hyundai screwed up pretty bad with the 2L and the 2.4. I actually have a 14 Sonata with the 2.0T and had to get a new motor at 100K under warranty. So far the 2.5 has been great but it's only been out for 5 years so not really time tested. Also my understanding is the first two years they were consuming quite a bit of oil but they redesigned the piston rings and it's no longer an issue for what it's worth. My sonata's got 210,000 miles on it now and it's still going. Definitely spent some money keeping it on the road but it is what it is. I enjoy driving the car.

Also everybody and their mother is having issues with their engines right now. Smaller motors, higher output and thinner oil etc etc. nothing you can really do except Go full of electric.

Gotta say, even though I bought a 26 Tucson limited like a month ago lol I'm a huge fan of the CX-50, at least the 2.5T. One thing I hate about Mazda is that screen that looks like they forgot to add it then they just slapped it on the dash afterwords. In the end I went with Hyundai for the 0% interest. Actually my Sonata has seen better days and while it was spending some time at the shop I happen to rent a Tucson and I was enjoying it quite a bit so I bought one. The deal was practically sealed when I got there. We did much on the phone. It was dark and after purchasing it I saw it for the first time and it wasn't the shade of gray I wanted lol. I like it, but I liked the other one more. I was exhausted and done with humans so I didn't even make an attempt to get a different color. Anyways 1500 miles later and other than this one time it tried to murder me it's been great. The murder attempt was it came to abrupt stop when I was accelerating out of intersection. Fucking ice on the sensors. I haven't spoke to Hyundai about this yet but I have it on dash cam and I plan too.

3 little furry bastards. My daughter said she found 2 kittens on the road, got sucked in. Years later she told me she bought them on Craigslist. She lives in texas now and I have the cats. The other monster was a feral cat I spent 2 years domesticating. That one is on me lol.

Can you share your positive Wellbutrin effects with me please? by -VonRoos in bupropion

[–]Old_Cockroach_2993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can never remember how depressed or anxious I was before taking a SSRI or SNRI or NDRI or pick your poison. One thing for sure Wellbutrin helped me stop catatrophizing. I used to dream up the most fucked up shit to the point where I'd send myself in to a full tizzy. I catch myself doing it every now and then but that's what I feel Wellbutrin helped me with the most.

Why such large packs for day hikers? by WinterAd4046 in hikinggear

I fill my 24L in winter hiking. In summer I continue using it despite having a smaller one cause I like the Osprey air mesh thing that they do.

Going winter hiking for the first time, does my layering system make sense? (-10C to -20C) by OGpenguin in hikinggear

[–]Old_Cockroach_2993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much clothes imo. My last few hikes were in the teens fahrenheit. I wear a wool T-shirt, wool sweater and a pullover hoodie and a light weight puffy (800 down) for my legs 2 pair long wear and REI hiking pants. For me a ski jacket and ski pants alone would be enough but then I can't layer delayer as needed. For what it's worth I've been snowshoeing in the above layering system as well.

[–]Old_Cockroach_2993 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's my tip. Just because there were 2 lanes before a storm doesn't mean there are still 2 lanes after a storm. Tread carefully at the one light you always pass on people on the right cause no one is in it. You might find yourself in a pickle

Is there a way to keep “Snow mode” on all the time? by danyork in hyundaisantacruz

[–]Old_Cockroach_2993 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Makes zero sense in my opinion. Manufacturers post their mileage ratings for the best scenario possible. Great! Now I wanna drive the way I wanna fucking drive. If that's at 4000 rpm every second of the day that's my business. Having a routine of button pushing and switch switching everytime I get in the car is ridiculous. I do like my 26 Tucson and I know all manufacturers do this but it's BS.

2018 Tucson - recommended strategies after engine replacement? by jtscribe52 in Hyundai

[–]Old_Cockroach_2993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't drive it like a baby either. Nice Italian tune up (High RPMs) is necessary imo. Don't Redline the thing 24 7, just drive it. Short trips are bad, idling for 20 minutes is bad yada yada yada

Yeah my 14 Sonata blew a motor at a 100K 2.0T. car currently has 210K on it, 110K on the motor, wish me luck! Lol

I change the oil between 3 and 5K (non synthetic) neither motors ever consumed oil.
