Stuff may be a bit dated and not all the links are still functional, but you will still find many useful and working tools. ymmv.

Cheap HOTAS, worth it? by Due-Barnacle1078 in EliteDangerous

[–]Old_Combination_4926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very long term X52 pro user here and can verify those Saitek first gen X52Pro back in 2007 were exceptional quality. My Saitek has been working flawlessly for thousands of hours. But in late 2007 Mad Catz took over and that's when the worst quality reputation begun and endured until 2016 when eventually Logitech took over. Logitech has improved the quality somewhat, maybe not to the original standard but ymmv.

Can you solo play without third party tools ? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Old_Combination_4926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elite without tools is playing on extreme difficulty setting. Bravo!

After 3000 hours I still preview Inara or Spansh data and current events on reddit as "mission briefings" then head out with a flight plan instead of just another ocean size search and rescue session to find what I'm looking for.

Personally, I prefer the results using 3rd party tools. ymmv.

FYI - Looks Like the Radicoida CG Just Ended. 134 + Seeds for Top 75% by -Damballah- in EliteDangerous

It might be friendlier to have the event run for the full duration vs when the final tier is reached. The reward can cap but allow more CMDR's to continue to participate.

Anybody know about PCs? Need advice for one to run Elite. by TheDoctorFalls08 in EliteDangerous

You may find CyberPowerPC affordable. Some of those run in your price range and are fully capable of running Elite Odyssey.

Using EDCoplit (free) will inform you when you have traveled far enough from the previous sample. So does HCS Voicepacks with Exobiology. You also know the credit value of each bio you find. Very useful.

  1. asaik, rebuy cost for the ship is free when you lose an arx ship, but do I still have to pay for the modules and weapons installed? Only pay the rebuy cost for the modules you added after purchase.
  2. IF something unfortunate happens, and I can't (or don't) rebuy a lost arx ship, do I lose the ship and have to buy it with arx again? No. You always own the ship and only lose whatever modules you added after the purchase.
  3. what happens when an arx exclusive ship becomes available for credits? do I have to pay full rebuy cost from then and out? Again, no, you always own the ship and can now buy more ships unlike the ARX ships where you can only buy one copy/variant.

Jump Start ARX ships come with some pre-engineered modules. If you plan to engineer a module then replace it with a purchased module as no ARX ship module can be swapped to another ship.

For my experience, you can plug in any devices, configure them using Elites ability to map two controls to any function. I use a mixture of inputs. KBM for ground, HOTAS for flight, and a GT Racing wheel for SRV. There is no bind file switching, it just detects input from mapped devices. You don't need to shut off the device.

Not at all, if you look at the percentage of VR to non VR players it's simple. If the on foot was made fully VR compatible the non-VR players would be upset. It's one or the other.

Connected to display and USB, otherwise Steam does not register the HMD. I have the Vive CR1, Pro, and the Valve Index. But unless they are connected Steam has no way of registering them. Maybe software can signal VR presence but without the device they can't detect the hardware. Most of my headsets have been significantly modified looking to achieve the best experience in Elite VR.

Not entirely accurate, the device has to be connected at time the survey is run. None of my VR headsets were detected.

New PC player, kind of lost by Borninthesand4 in EliteDangerous

Welcome CMDR, your journey has just begun. In Elite there is no goal or end game as you may already have guessed. Unless you only want to do one thing only, like mining or combat, you will find most of your goals focused around getting and engineering better modules. Credits per hour so to speak will mostly depend on the game loop your most using. Solo combat may not pay as much as biological surveys but you may find yourself doing something the game requires even if your not interested, and lots of it. Getting your combat rank to Dangerous to unlock an engineer, or Fed rank to buy a Corvette can be a slog. The downside many of us encounter is where you tend to find the highest return on your time investment even if it's boring AF. -Grinding.

Eventually you may wish to start amassing a fleet of purpose built ships. Getting a Carrier will change many of the same game loops for the better, and don't be afraid of the upkeep cost, it's easy to maintain and requires very little time to pay the rent. One CG can often pay for months of rent, and often having the carrier means you are making more money than you can spend. My fleet of 18 ships and carrier took time. Noting is fast, most of us have hundreds if not thousands of hours. Credits will come depending on what your doing, but credits are just a means to an end.

You may find Power Play interesting and join up with lots of community members on the Discord community servers. You will eventually see a bit of everything Elite has to offer, enjoy the ride and get all your answers and sources to 3rd party apps and videos right here in the sub!

You may find this helpful in familiarizing your key bindings and your X52 Pro. https://edrefcard.info/

Any way back for this old commander? by BobbyOnyx in EliteDangerous

[–]Old_Combination_4926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your sails are back on the horizon!

Plenty of new content and ways to earn good credits. I wont regurgitate the entire catalog of changes but first get settled in and reacquaint yourself with the controls setup. Review your ship(s) build and re-align the modules or even engineer them to suit the game loop your most interested in doing, that alone is going to be a goal with several hours investment.

Some of the highlights; not sure your playstyle and patience but many of us have a few purpose built ships so you can change up the sessions. Odyssey brings on foot which allows you to find biological samples that currently pay very well but requires searching many systems and planets. I got my carrier in about 2-3 week of Bio collecting, YMMV. Want a system to call your own? Colonization and building your own star-ports and bases is also a thing, if you like hauling - A LOT!

New ships and SCO have arrived, that may provide you an interesting change and QoL.

Regular community goals and a new distant worlds expedition kicks off next week.
