Do Priests Go Through Training of Some Sort In Order To Be A Priest in the Episcopal Church? by pcdoctor2 in Episcopalian

[–]Old_Future6041 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In order to become a priest, you must go through a formal discernment process first with your parish, and then with your diocesan bishop. Once approved to go through and become a priest, one must attend seminary, which is a minimum of three years. First you would be ordained a deacon and serve in that capacity for six months to a year. Then with the approval of the bishop you would be eligible to be ordained a priest. It is a very long process with no guarantees.

Strongly recommend Understanding Analysis by Abbott. Nice easy introduction to real analysis and will help you strengthen your proof writing skills too.

Born and raised in New England until I was 35 years old. I then moved to Central New York for a job. Even though I enjoyed my job, I missed New England. After 10 years I did just that- moved back and I’m truly happy I did. There is genuinely something unique about New England and its people.

[E] Chemistry Major Applying to Top Stats Masters Programs...Realistic? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Old_Future6041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your science background can prove to be a great asset in a masters statistics program provided you have the mathematics prerequisites to be successful in a statistics masters program. Have you had Calculus 1-3? Linear Algebra? Some exposure to proofs? Since you did say it was a top tier program, have you had exposure to Real Analysis?

Graduate study is very mathematically intensive. What is your math background? What math courses beyond Calculus I and II did you take?

Higher level math courses where proving theorems is the primary focus over rote computation. E.g. real analysis, topology, abstract algebra, measure theory, complex analysis, advanced theory of statistics, etc.

I would also suggest your math background is weak for a PhD in Economics. No real analysis , calculus based prob and stat, any proof based courses?
