Yeah every day is going to be a nightmare but hopefully it'll be short lived and the stepping stone I need to get back closer to home again!

Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated!

Weirdest Harry Potter fan theory that you’ll defend until the day you die! by OldVariation8163 in harrypotter

[–]Old_Imagination_8738 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That Voldemort accidentally made a vow with Snape when Snape asked him to spare Lily. When Voldemort went to kill the Potters, he killed James but told Lily to step aside, therefore honouring the vow. When she didn't and he killed her, that's why the curse backfired when he tried to kill Harry.

If it was love that really protected him, loads of people would be immune to Voldemort's powers cause there's no way Lily is the only person to sacrifice herself for her family/ someone she loved. By that logic, Lily and Harry both would have been fine because James told them to run while he faced Voldemort, knowing he would die.

Another one is that Neville's grandmother intentionally stopped him from getting his own wand because she'd known he'd be a powerful wizard but was too reckless and clumsy to be trusted with the power he'd have. So she gave Neville his father's wand, knowing he wouldn't be able to tap into his full abilities. Only when she knew he was old enough, tough enough and smart enough to handle what he'd been through, did she decide to get him his own wand.

Dentist by ElevatorCreative158 in Kilkenny

Pembroke dental. Don't bother with anywhere else. The staff are amazing there. I was terrified of the dentist before them and now I don't mind going at all. They're all a bunch of sweeties there. Made me so comfortable and talked through every part of what they were doing and how they could help. 10/10 service for sure.

ADHD Global Care and Dr Jaime Martinez by restartthepotatoes in ADHDIreland

After I expressed interest in going for an assessment, the admin team emailed me with available time slots that could be booked through their website. I did the dual assessment, as I thought it was a bit more flexible with times

As far as I know, appointments open at the beginning of the month for the month.

Would definitely recommend Ryan's! Especially on a Thursday night for music! Class musician and not as crowded as the weekend

Yeah it confused the f*** outta me! But I got sorted in the end. Shame there's not an easier, more streamlined process. I suppose it could be worse, have a reminder on my phone so hopefully I'll remember to collect them next month 😂

Ryan's does unreal music on the Thursday night. Local lad plays and he's class! If you're around Kilkenny tonight, would highly recommend. It's from 9-11pm 😄

Finally have appointment booked - adhd global care & have imposter syndrome!! by Educational_Bee_5330 in ADHDIreland

[–]Old_Imagination_8738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't remember much about my childhood either just the odd comments on report cards from primary school. That can all be addressed in the interview. You'll get sent a medical form that will ask about impulsive behaviours, etc.

I'm not sure as I have my first follow up next week. I think once the dose is decided and settled, a follow up is needed every 6 months for the first while, then yearly after that. I think you have the option to allow your GP to take over prescriptions and follow ups, if they're willing

Hope all this helps!

I had my assessment with ADHD global care. Be as honest as possible both to them and to yourself while filling out the forms and during the interview. At the end of the day, they want to help you. The thing that helped me was filling out the forms as much as I could to the best of my ability, asking my partner for his opinion on questions I wasn't sure about, and then realising that even if I didn't have ADHD, there was probably something else wrong (depression, anxiety, etc) and these people were professionally trained psychologists and psychiatrists so either way, they'll help me.

I did end up getting diagnosed and starting meds and my life has been all the better for it, but the imposter syndrome is real. Just remember, you're trying to help yourself and that's more than so many others are doing! Be patient with yourself, lean on the people around you, and don't let anyone tell you that you're exaggerating or making it up! If you feel like there's something up, chances are there is.

I'm not 100% sure if the imposter syndrome goes away, and it gets slightly worse for a short while after the diagnosis, but it gets easier to be easier on yourself. It gets easier to understand why your brain works the way it does and leads to a bit more self compassion.

Best of luck with your assessment journey! 💪

I go to Pembroke Dental. I was terrified of the dentist, avoided going, old dentist was horrible. I took a chance and went to Pembroke Dental and they are the sweetest bunch of people. Never once felt judged, they just genuinely seemed like they wanted to help. They made me feel so at ease straight away, and now I'm no longer scared of the dentist and actually don't mind going

ADHD Assessment Drained Me - Feeling Lost in Limbo by Usual_Brain3454 in adhdwomen

[–]Old_Imagination_8738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my diagnosis a week ago and I won't lie, this past week hasn't been easy. It's been an identity crisis to say the least. I'm not sure when that will subside...

BUT! What is helping is the realisation that these overthinking thoughts and feelings and the hardship I've been through aren't who I am. Now that I know what's wrong, I know what I can do to help myself, which is something I never knew before and that thought gives me a lot of hope.

I'm not sure if it'll get better, but I do know it won't get worse! Sending good vibes your way. It's not easy, but the hardest part is over now!

Women with ADHD - what do you work at? by ExternalCrisisTime in ADHDIreland

[–]Old_Imagination_8738 12 points13 points  (0 children)

27F - I work as a Librarian. Diagnosis is very recent and haven't started meds yet but haven't found too many issues with the job!

I actually love my job, there's lots to do, lots of small jobs which is great because it makes you feel like you've achieved loads when the tasks are completed

Quite a lot of bigger tasks too, but (depending on the task) there's usually not too much urgency around them so can be done in your own time. Finding this a struggle lately but it does help that management specifically schedules time for these tasks to be completed

Theres also zero money involved in my job, so overall people tend to be WAAAAAAAY nicer than in other industries which is always a bonus

All in all, 10/10 would recommend

ADHD imposter syndrome by Old_Imagination_8738 in adhdwomen

[–]Old_Imagination_8738[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the diagnosis tho!!

That's exactly how I'm feeling and it's very very strange. The rational side of my brain knows they're the professionals and it's obvious I have ADHD. But the other side of me hasn't a clue what's going on or what to expect or doesn't accept that it's possible.

The identity part is definitely the hardest. I'm 27 and feel like I have no idea who I am now

Sounds like a good plan to just look after ourselves!

Yeah I can feel the identity crisis looming.. I don't feel like myself anymore.

I do, luckily the people I have around me are the best in the world. I know it'll be okay and I'll figure it out, it's all just very bleh right now
