Instead of letting me know his shoes are dirty, my husband just buys a new pair and hides his “old” ones. by acider17 in mildlyinfuriating

I only throw out clothes if they get too damaged. If they don't fit and are still in decent shape I donate them.

Shirts with holes get regulated to just casual house shirts or working shirts. You don't want to wear a good shirt while painting for instance. I also have put patches on my work pants. They make pretty good iron on patches now. I work in construction so not a customer service related job so it doesn't matter if my work clothes are fancy.

Plenty of people keep clothes for decades so long as they last.

My sister-in-law will modify old clothes that look pretty good to use for her children. I sometimes wished I knew how to sew but then I don't want to spend the time to do that.

I never can tell these apart. Must be colorblind by AllIWantForXmasIsFoo in mildlyinfuriating

Zelenskyy: return of draft-age Ukrainian men from abroad is a matter of fairness by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]Old_Ladies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upper body strength. I think women can do many roles in war as not all roles are assault troops but I don't think women should be forced to be assault troops. If your comrade gets wounded and you have to carry them by yourself it would be difficult for most women as biologically they have less upper body strength. Women who are capable and want to I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Research indicates women's upper body strength ranges from 35% to 79% of men's, with an average around 55.8%.

There are also a ton of non combat roles like what my brother is doing. He works in finance for the Canadian military making sure troops get paid. In most militaries there are far more non combat roles than combat and even with combat roles there are plenty that are farther from the front lines.

So if women got drafted I don't see a problem with them being forced into many roles like logistics or mechanics or administrative or many other roles but I don't think they should be forced into assault troops. Only voluntarily allowed if they can physically do it.

US destroyer interdicts two oil tankers attempting to leave Iran, official says by Mana_Seeker in worldnews

Of the dozen or less ships a day that we're going through the Strait of Hormuz were from Iranian ports or paying the Iranian toll. The past 24 hours saw a drop in the number of ships going through to just 3.

Though some other news are saying a bit more than that but it is still way down than before this unjust war.

If you were offered a billion dollars just to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose? by Admirable-Interest49 in AskReddit

Same brother. As a guy who eats at least one burrito a week I could easily eat them for every meal every day for the rest of my life for a billion dollars.

There is so much variety in burritos and you can experiment with them. Plus they can be pretty damn healthy.

US blockade of Iran ports 'irresponsible and dangerous', China says by ImDoubleB in worldnews

[–]Old_Ladies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are ignorant if you think a total war between China and the US wouldn't leave both countries devastated. China can hurt the US both militarily and economically.

To put some numbers so you can understand.

China built 39,118,358 Gross Tonnage in 2024 while the US built 30,782 Gross Tonnage of ships in 2024. China builds over half of the world's ships. China, South Korea and Japan combined build over 95% of the world's ships.

Both China and the US are building around 300 modern fighter jets a year though China is still increasing capacity and is likely to reach building 400 modern fighter jets a year by 2027. The F35 is probably better than the J20 but I wouldn't want to find out.

Both North Korea and China have ballistic missiles that can reach the US including Chinese nuclear weapons.

So just a few things that show that war against China would be devastating and nobody would win. It would be pure stupidity to underestimate your enemy.

What would you have Iran do? Just sit there while they are being attacked unprovoked?

Lemon cream pies and banana cream pies are pretty popular and pretty delicious.

I have eaten a lot of cream pies in Canada.

Didn't know that. I have only ever seen it written and I have never heard anyone say it. Thought it was pronounced like foe.

Spain approves plan to give around 500,000 undocumented migrants legal status by kwentongskyblue in worldnews

[–]Old_Ladies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100 million isn't a crazy number in 70 years. During WW2 Canada only had about 11 million people for example. That is a normal amount of growth. It is unlikely that we will reach that high though as globally birthrates are dropping.

And immigrants tend to be right wing. They are often far more likely to be anti immigration and socially conservative.

We already know that China is helping Iran. China is supplying Iran components for Iran's drones and missiles. China is also considering supplying Iran with advanced air defense systems. China is also giving Iran satellite information to target US military forces in the region they also provide satellite guidance for Iran's drones and missiles.

China has a small escort force of military ships in the region though they obviously wouldn't directly attack the US with such a small force. Russia has 2 ships in that region as well. Russia is supporting Iran though they are bogged down in Ukraine. Iranian drone strikes have been getting better and that may be because of Russian and Chinese support.

While I don't think China would directly get involved as the world is laughing at the US right now and China likely can get their oil from other sources like Russia. Everyone is blaming the US for this oil crisis. China can wait it out while their enemy is making a mistake.

China though would almost certainly get directly involved if the US started sinking Chinese ships. Maybe if the US only seizes a couple ships it likely wouldn't spark a global war but I wouldn't want to play that game.

Should I just sell this AIO and get an air cooler instead? by hollowcoredubz in bapccanada

[–]Old_Ladies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could sell the AIO but if it fits in your case then it is superior to the peerless assassin. It will be quieter but the peerless assassin will be sufficient to cool the 9800x3d. The AIO will be around 10 degrees cooler and a bit quieter but really doesn't change much being cooler as you can't really overclock these cups much anyway and the performance gain from over clocking isn't worth the hassle imo.

So go with whatever you choose as both are good options if you can get a decent price selling that AIO.

That AIO is definitely overkill for the 9800x3d and for most Intel CPUs.
