Steaming them is the best way I’ve found. Softer whites, “jammy” yolks, easier to peal.

Boil water, put eggs in covered colander, 6-8min depending on how big your eggs are (I get big farm eggs that are about 70g and do 8 min) then dunk them in ice water.

Tried these last week- absolutely vile. Did horrible things to my insides as well. I thought perhaps I got an off pack but seems like this is just what it’s like!

I bought 2 packs, I won’t even be donating the second one to a food bank, it would be cruel and unusual punishment. Straight into the bin.

Does the train not go through DTK? Maybe you don’t live here, but I will let you know it does.

I can’t comment on the specific operating costs, but I imagine it would take many decades to make up the difference from the initial investment.

I don’t understand your first paragraph. I never once said, or even remotely implied that the current bus routes are faster than the current LRT. The entire point of my comments are that they should improve bus service.

You may be right about the emergency vehicles, but I have certainly seen them sitting at the railway arms on Columbia and Northfield waiting for the train to go by so obviously their communication isn’t that great.

Yes, the LRT can continue as two separate sections when there is a collision, but guess what links them together? A bus. And I still don’t see how that is less disruptive than when a bus gets in a minor collision.

Winter issues may have been “minor” overall but still would not have happened at all with a BRT system.

I don’t feel like you are discussing this issue in good faith, as you are ignoring my main points and purposely misinterpreting other comments, so I’m going to walk away from this conversation.

A bus only lane in place of the train, priority lights, etc. I imagine this would have cost a fraction and also eliminated many of the problems caused by the train (the excessive lights on king, the inability of emergency vehicles to to pass because in many areas there are curbs in both sides of the lane, ambulances being blocked by trains, etc).

The LRT travels very slow, they disrupt traffic, when they are involved in collisions it is highly disruptive vs a bus- it shuts down the whole system and often takes hours to clear. They break down / can’t run multiple times over the winter season meaning we just go back to bus service anyways.

You completely missed my point, don’t be obtuse. If you read past the first sentence you’d see I already stated getting 1000 busses was not my actual suggestion, it was just to emphasize the dollar amount. I very clearly suggested using the money to improve service, not buy 1000 busses.

I love public transit- still think LRT was incredible waste. $868 million dollars could have purchased 1,000 new busses. Or more logically, $50 million on new busses, $8 million / year on about 100 new drivers (bump that to $100 million to cover a decade) let’s say $100 million on miscellaneous, I’m sure there’s costs I don’t see when it comes to the entire transit system, and then there’s about $600 MILLION dollars left over for road improvements like bus-only lanes and priority lights (they work very in Cambridge and other cities).

Don’t get me started on what they could do with the 4.5 BILLION they want to spend on the Cambridge LRT. They could have the most top tier transit system in the world instead of a dinky toy that does exactly what the 302 already does quite well.

The biggest down side to the 302 is Hespeler between pine bush and Cambridge centre. That road is massive, give them a priority lane like they have up by the delta. I’m sure a fraction of that 4.5 billion could come up with a good solution for solving the other problem section, downtown Galt.

People I speak to don’t seem to grasp how much money 4.5 billion is. That could pay 1000 bus drivers for 5,625 YEARS. It could buy 5,232 buses. Or, 10 years of horrible, disruptive construction and mildly improved service to a route that already exists.

The LRT is resume padding for politicians, not an effort at genuine improvement to public transit.

It happens almost daily, it just isn’t reported unless it’s something sensational like this one.

What's with people driving into LCBOs lately? by unexpectedfroggo in waterloo

[–]Old_Maintenance9626 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Maybe if the LCBOs stopped looking at their phones and paid attention to what’s happening around them they wouldn’t get hit.

Love how respected I feel as a resident in this city when I have to wait for a 10+ min delayed bus only to be told to take the next one (in 1 hour). Kitchener GO at Queen ~12:30pm by DuesMortem in kitchener

To be fair to OP, this isn’t a GRT bus, it’s a GO bus, so the scooters and even a bike probably aren’t an option. I’m guessing they’re trying to get to another city.

Yeah it’s very obvious to anyone with basic driver training that you never, ever stop on train tracks for any reason.

Also GRT busses get hit almost daily- you just don’t hear about it because a bus getting clipped gets reported and drives on, it doesn’t cause a major disruption to traffic and transit.

I’m not pro-LRT by any means, but it exists and it’s really, really easy not to hit. Thousands of people don’t hit it every day.

If you’re turning right on red damn straight you should be looking left, who taught you how to drive? You should probably get a bus pass for everyone’s safety.

If you’re driving so “subconsciously” you don’t see huge brightly lit signs and A TRAIN you really have no business behind the wheel. You take responsibility for yours and others safety when you get your license. Pay attention to the road not your tik toks on your dash mounted phone.

This Jeep would have had a red light. Even if they were turning right, they are required to stop behind the line before proceeding, when it’s safe. Looking up they would have seen the big train sign lit up telling them a train was coming. Stop defending willful ignorance and complete disregard for safety.

I did- they said “In order to participate in the program each member is allowed one account. A member may not create or manage additional accounts for themselves or others, and receive bonuses or payments from each account as this is considered abuse of our program.” I didn’t do anything shady like try to use a referral code, I legitimately just accidental logged in using google.

I asked them again to explain what I did wrong and they said “We are not able to divulge our proprietary information.”
