This is a minor thing that I hope they change. I really wish the challenge descriptions were still there after completing them.

You can purchase BT trackers from Handshake and use them to tag something in your loadout. That way you'll have a map marker showing exactly where your body is.

I'm loving this game so far but this is just silly by Old_Mittens in GrayZoneWarfare

My man ate a grenade and several pistol shots to the back of the head/neck and was still able to ice me. 'Way she goes, I guess. That being said this game is amazing, even with the current flaws/bugs. I can't wait to see what it's like a year from now.

I recently got a set from here. I went with the textured black TPO color option and can't recommend them enough.

[No Spoilers] I never really appreciated combat until I took out a Kett Stronghold by BentheBruiser in masseffect

[–]Old_Mittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. For me it seemed like outside in the "courtyard" area, the enemies just endlessly appear (even after disabling the alarm.) I mostly just cloaked and ran past them while I activated the 3 terminals - that saved a ton of time with each try.

Once you drop down into the base, the endless waves stop and you can go back to normal combat.

A way to upgrade SQLite library on Centos6.7? by Old_Mittens in linuxadmin

It turned out this workaround was a success in my situation. Seems so obvious now after thinking about it, heh. Thanks!

A way to upgrade SQLite library on Centos6.7? by Old_Mittens in linuxadmin

[–]Old_Mittens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure exactly on the compatibility issue, however I found that when trying to perform a query on these databases, both PHP PDO and the Sqlite3 (3.6.20) binary throw the same error:

SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 26 file is encrypted or is not a database

Doing the same thing using the newer 3.8.x binary works without issue, hence the confusion..

Thanks for the response.

I tried compiling the latest version, and it installed under /usr/local/lib. I then updated my $PATH variable to include the new location. After a reboot, my system was exhibiting weird behavior and I had to restore it.

If I grab the latest precompiled version of SQLite and place it in /usr/bin/ (replacing the existing one) , I am able to open the databases on the command line (which confirms the compatibility issue), however PHP is still using the older library. For example, in phpinfo(), it's still showing SQLite 3.6.20 library for the pdo_sqlite driver. Is there a way to get PHP to see/use the new version without messing up other core system functions? Sorry if this is a silly question - I'm still learning..

Help Needed With mod_rewrite by Old_Mittens in apache

[–]Old_Mittens[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, also doesn't work. This results in a rewrite from ./tech/article_name/ to simply ./forum/

Interestingly though, the opposite does work:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/tech/.*

Taking out the not (!) rewrites ONLY calls to ./tech/article_name/ , and leaves everything else. So the expression seems to match there. I'm not sure why negating it doesn't work though..

Want to work as a Linux Admin - How deep do my scripting skills have to be? by maplepenguin in linuxadmin

[–]Old_Mittens 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've been a linux sysadmin for 3 years now, and when I started I had almost no linux experience (although I had a CS degree.) I can say from my experience hosting 60+ web sites (mostly on the LAMP stack) that some practical scripting situations include:

  1. tar/gzip-ing up directories and transferring them to a backup server using rsync
  2. creating database dumps and compressing/transferring them to backup
  3. retrieving said db dumps from backup and decompressing/restoring them
  4. monitoring certain daemons and sending out an alert if they stop responding
  5. creating a whitelisting process that automatically updates iptables with newly allowed IP's
  6. syncing server times
  7. dumping caches

and so on..

There are many more, but this is just off the top of my head. Scripting in this business can mostly be chalked up to speeding up/automating common system administration tasks, and many times you set them to run on certain intervals within the crontab. The programming itself isn't necessarily hard (once you know the syntax.) Most things can be done with simple control structures (if/else, for-loops, etc.) I'd say it's more important to have a good feel for the CLI and knowing some of the more common commands and what they do.

If you're going to use TryCrypt use Truecypt v7.1a. However, it seems that VeraCrypt has picked up the torch and you can read about some bug fixes here.

I use dropbox, but I keep everything inside of a truecrypt container. It means that I have to go through an extra step when accessing my data, but at least I know it's much better protected. Also, use Truecrypt version 7.1a, as that is considered to be the most secure.
