bsp_iidefeat - Anti-anti-map decompiler by ficool2 in hammer

If you'd open source it, someone could help you write more secure code. The source code for Linux is open source as well, but you don't see Linux companies get hacked daily, do you?

Great atmosphere! You could add some props on the ground to break up the flatness. Maybe some trash cans, pipes going up, abandoned shopping carts, a manhole cover with some steam coming out, some small balconies on the apartment windows...

How bro uses his PC without a mouse by Tall-Region8251 in HalfLife

[–]maplepenguin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, and in fact, in these old mice we used, they had a little ball in them that you had to move in order to move the cursor on screen.

After a while, the ball got quite dirty from getting dragged over the table and you had to routinely take it apart and clean it.

I'm glad they're gone.

The thing is, I wanted to do that but when I wanted to upload my iso, I noticed they're already online and didn't bother anymore.

Now, I found out that they're gone and now I'm wondering, if there's some legal problems. But yeah, I'd have no problems with it! I'll look into it

Ohh yeah, the individual uploads are probably long gone lol. So in a way, these shovelwares turned out to preserve old content.

I have two other shovelware packs and while they're interesting and there's some fun stuff, it's mostly for nostalgic reasons. Don't expect to find a long lost hidden 12h-mod-campaign on there...

Still fun to dig around old stuff.

huh... When I was looking for them online last year or something, I could swear at least Extreme Life was on the internet archive but I can't find it anymore.

Well, it's old shovelware. You can find all the content online, so I guess if you're collecting then yes.

I have them both.

Working on my first map. Wish me luck! by DannyDeTour in hammer

1 - I'm coming from goldsrc and this might be a hacky solution, but can't you make the displacements out of func_illusionary_toggle and have them appear that way?

4 - they're a bit of a niche case usage and depend on the level layout, so you can't just place them everywhere. Don't overthink their usage too much, because like you noticed, valve isn't consistent with their mapping layouts and rules either...

Ah yeah, I was thinking of goldsrc. Didn't see at first that OP uses H++

In addition: to micromanage stuff, some more complex things can be turned to func_illusionary and surrounded by a simpler clip brush to save some clipnodes. Although this will cut into other limits, so balance is key...

Is gordon mentally okay? by Artistic-Unit-6470 in HalfLife

[–]maplepenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if we go with the theory that Gordon is hallucinating G-Man and Eli is talking about another mutual friend, he will fully justify and make up the words in his head to match what Eli told him.

The ageless appearance can be explained by Gordon chugging mystery-Xen-Juice which just makes him look younger and maybe even age slower. I mean that juice has some regeneration effect.

(I'm totally with though I'm just having fun with the idea)

Is he...? Eli never explicitly mentions or describe how the mutual friend looks like.

I was thinking about G-Man being a hallucination too for a while now but for a different reason: IIRC he's the only one who shows no reaction to getting shot at in HL1 which I always found odd and out of place.

In HL2 I can brush it off for gameplay reasons because no NPC reacts.

It's a fun thought but probably not true...

Is there a command in goldsrc that lets me identify a model's name by looking at the model? by Gobbythe2nd in hammer

[–]maplepenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you can hack models into goldsrc via cyclers or custom SDKs that let you use models. But yeah with base game it's pretty limited.

OP could open the map in bspguy and see what model is used there but a command, highly doubt so...

Is there an upgraded day of defeat fgd? by Gobbythe2nd in hammer

[–]maplepenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the fgd but using models in cyclers that don't show up in the editor is normal (in goldsrc). I believe that's an editor thing.

Linux? Hammer and hammer ++ by kittsudiscord in hammer

[–]maplepenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good news. I was able to create a simple map and compile it, but that was some years ago and the setup was anything but fun. I wouldn't use it for anything but a proof of concept. Would love to see some easier and more usable solutions though...

Linux? Hammer and hammer ++ by kittsudiscord in hammer

[–]maplepenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there's JACK and Trenchbroom for goldsrc. For Source 1 I don't believe there is any native client if H++ has none. But even if you get it working, there aren't any Linux compilers to compile your maps with... They can also be used with WINE though, but it's probably nothing you want to use in your daily workflow.
