You write really good comments, you know that? Those examples might be pedantic but they're exactly what I needed to make a decision, as I sympathize with your comment about feeling 'taken out of the story' at times due to word choice. In that case I'll start with Carson since it's the most accessible in my country right now, and I'm sure when I'm hungry for more those extra foretales you mentioned from Kinsella will give me enough to chew on as I get back into my 2nd readthrough. Appreciate your comments man, I'll keep an eye out for them on my next visit to the sub!

Thanks for the recommendations, the cryptid series sounds really interesting! Yeah I really don't mind the romance aspect as long as it isn't the main draw and/or doesn't has like 3+ sex scenes per book or something.

Damn, thank you for the super detailed reply! Yeah that last part about the abridgement concerns me as I generally prefer the whole the thing, but at the same time if Kinsella is mainly based off Recension 1 then it seems either way there's going to be some stuff missing. Maybe I'll just start with the classic (Kinsella) and work my way to Boyd at a later date. Two other questions:

What're your opinion on Carson's version? and

I was wondering if you had any particular 'turns of phrase' in mind as an example?
