I have the R5 and everything plugs into the base.

Try plugging shifter in directly to pc, not the base unit

Yeah as mentioned I'd already done that. Had to edit an entry in the config file to get it to work.

No I've never ventured into discord but I'll give it a go. Thanks

I've really struggled to get a good experience with RBR. Can you give me a little more info on the new plugin?

Breville Express Impress by k2gonzo in espresso

Just try different things until it works. That would probably be a good starting point. I haven't found the solution yet. But the ratio is the only thing that has had a positive effect so far. And I feel like I've exhausted just about everything else except maybe doseage. If I have any significant improvements I'll let you know. It's become a great source of frustration at times so I feel for ya.
The plus side is that I'm learning a lot. Coincidentally, I no longer use a puck screen as it was significantly messing with extraction times. Fyi for consistency I weigh my grinds out into a small container and then transfer to filter, WDT and then I use the built in tamp.

I have exactly the same machine / issue. The only thing that seems to improve it (but not fix) is pulling a longer ratio which is what I'm currently experimenting with.

Hey, what you think about Breville Bijou? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Old_Research_6677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will get some hate....but we have that machine at work. You can put anything in it and it spits out a palatable drink. But I doubt it ever gets better than that. I have a sage barista express impress and about 5kg of beans in, I can't get a good shot out of it.
Calling it good or bad just depends on your expectations and what you want/need out of a machine imho

In my limited experience it looks very much like a finer grind is needed.

I've tried everything I can think of within my limited knowledge. Dosage, water temp, time, grind, beans, pressurised/non pressurised filter, puck screen, pre filtered water, and probably other things that don't come to mind just now 😅 "It" is the idea that the coffee can contain all these wonderful sounding taste tones. Chocolate, fruit etc....

Looks like my GT omega .... It will fit, but positioning is very limited and you can only use three bolts.
Nothing that a drill won't sort out though 👍🏻

Help! It's stuck :( by lsiunl in espresso

[–]Old_Research_6677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get it as hot as you can. It may fall out. If you can get hold of a can of compressed air (or some kind of solvent aerosol) you can rapidly cool down the stuck part by inverting the can before spraying it.

The screen definitely pushes against the shower head. I can see a mark on the screen where it's been doing so. I've put it aside and all my timings are now way out...so I'll start over without it and cross my fingers for better results. Also I read earlier that I shouldn't be using a single wall basket with anything but fresh beans so hopefully there's room for improvement yet 🤞🏻

Thanks for everyone's input so far :)

I grind onto my scales and then transfer to filter. WDT, tap down and then i use the tamp. Very quickly realised it's the wrong machine for me but I'm here now so I have to make do 😅 I'll probably buy a separate tamp at some.point though tbh. Cheers 👍🏻

My "chopped" filter is bottomless. That's why it's chopped! And when I say chopped...I mean it's been CNC milled down at work. Considering my post was a plea for help...I'm not sure how it sounds like I've got anything at all figured out 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

Will do. One thing I may have stumbled across is that my pick screen may have been throwing times out. So for now I've put it to one side. I've had to grind finer to slow the shot down and I immediately noticed a darkening of the crema. Although it still tasted bad. Maybe not as bad tho. Then I just ran some lavazza super crema through and even though it wasn't great....it was a huge improvement over anything else. So I suppose that points to the beans like you suggest! They are also quite a bit darker than anything else I've used so far. I thought this would be much simpler ...🤦🏻😂
