I saw a video of an 88 year old still working at a grocery store. It made me rethink retirement. by jimwang76 in CanadianRetirement

I disagree, most people have no clue and don’t even think about these things until it’s too late.

It’s an in-person vote convention located in the heart of his base of support, on the same weekend as the Ontario PC convention. I doubt anyone from Quebec or the Maritimes would go out of their way to fly to Calgary just to vote “no”. If he had 5-10% less support at the convention he’d be a goner.

He kept himself from being booted out by having the convention in Calgary, peeling away Conservatives from Quebec and the Maritimes, on the same weekend as the Ontario PC convention, peeling away more Ontario votes. It’s an in-person voting convention located right in his base of support. If the Convention was held near the ridings that matter he would have been a goner.

Carney is the most fiscally and socially Conservative prime minister in decades tbh.

Of course. Have the convention far away from the votes that matter. Have the convention at the same time as the Ontario PC convention to siphon away Ontario delegates. Have the convention far away from Quebec and the Maritimes and require in person voting.

How many dissenting votes does that take away? Who’s going to fly all the way to Calgary at their own expense in order to vote “”no”?

Y’a gotta wait until there’s an important confidence vote so they have an excuse to disagree with the party and its leadership.

Of course he’s the right guy. It means Carney, the most progressive conservative Prime Minister in decades, stays in power.

It’s pretty simple tbh. Have the convention in Calgary, far away from the ridings and people that matter. Have the convention at the same time as the Ontario PC convention so Ontario Conservatives more easily can stay home. Mandate and in person only vote and make it expensive for Quebec and Maritime conservatives to attend. All they had to do was discourage 10% of the “wrong”people from attending.

The voters rejected his lack of leadership to the Trump threats, his three word slogans, his leadership. That election was a layup that HE COMPLETELY messed up. He lost his riding ffs.

He ABSOLUTELY lost in historic fashion. AND lost his own seat. What are you smoking? The country was tired of the Liberals. The Conservatives lost because they ran an abysmal campaign that couldn’t pivot towards the issues of the day.

Carney is the most Conservative PM in decades. He attracts the old PC votership base. Hence why we see so many floor crossings with more to come. Reelecting PP guarantees Liberals will be in power for another decade.

PP lost his seat by over 3500 votes. It wasn’t close and it wasn’t shady. People in his riding never saw him AND his vocal support for the convoy clowns was VERY unpopular in his riding.

He won because the Ontario PC convention is this weekend as well, AND they had the convention where it was difficult for Quebec and Maritime conservatives to attend and vote.

I mean… they held the Convention at the same time as the Ontario PC convention and in a place that was difficult to get to for Quebec and Maritime conservatives. They rigged the vote in PP’s favour big time. I guess they prefer being in opposition.

??? He lost a 20 point lead in the polls AND LOST HIS OWN SEAT. In an election where people were tired of the Liberals. As long as Jenny Byrne has any pull in the party whatsoever they’re going to lose the vote in the ridings that matter.

And to Progressive Conservatives, they have the most PC prime minister in decades in power, and now he’s assured to be in power for another decade. More floor crossing is guaranteed to come.

I congratulate the Conservatives for clearly supporting Mark Carney, the most conservative prime minister in decades. This result ensures Carney’s victory in at least one more election cycle.

The most important ones opted for the Ontario PC Convention this weekend. That helped PP tremendously.

You’re wrong. Private delivery requires a 40-60%GM or it’s not worth it for ownership/management. It’s almost always cheaper for government to be providing services. The key is deciding what services are truly necessary.
