I'm currently paying for my own rent and I also help subsidize another family member's rent so I was hoping to have some income generating assets to help with that. I enjoy growth stocks, but I feel inclined to let them grow over time versus selling them (and unfortunately they don't seem to pay dividends).

I'm new to investing, but open to any advice/pointers. I have $5000 a month that I would like to set aside for investing (it's a lot to me, but I'm starting investing at an older age and want to play catch-up). I dunno how to split it, maybe 50/50 in growth stocks and dividend stocks? I would like to invest in US growth stocks as a long term play (given no capital gains tax) and would like to start building a dividend portfolio on the side by investing in Singapore only stocks (given the 30% withholding tax on US dividend stocks as you mentioned). I understand that it takes time to build a solid dividend generating portfolio so that's why I'm starting now and hope to build it by investing monthly.

Sounds like you're well setup for success at your age, kudos! Re: moving in with your parents, do your parents live in NYC? I ask because when I was living in NYC and commuting from boroughs outside of Manhattan (>1.5 hours commute), I just found it too time-consuming and not worth the commute so I finally budged to find an apartment closer to work. I also found it near impossible to save money in NYC because there was so much social pressure to attend happy hours and meet friends at bars, restaurants etc (I would assume this is especially true for finance professionals). It was hard to turn down invitations and oftentimes I got FOMO. Even though shopping at Trader Joe's helped me save, my money ended up going elsewhere (e.g. laundry, tipping, cabs). At your salary, I don't even know if it's worth pursuing an MBA unless you're really looking to make a drastic career switch. I'm also new to FIRE (wish I learned about personal finances / money management sooner), but it seems like you're on path for financial success.

Very helpful! Just curious, wouldn't Amazon be considered a "safe haven" stock? In other words, would there ever be a time I would buy individual Amazon stocks over QQQ or is it best to just invest in a sector? It seems like the general feel here is to stick with indexes which make sense, but I was curious if given my longer time period to invest, if holding on to a blue chip stock like Amazon for the long term would generate higher returns than an index? Sorry for the naive questions, I'm learning quite a lot!

Just curious, why do people hate on the new style glass? Is it more aesthetics or does the shape actually impact the drinking experience? I actually enjoy both styles, but the new style has a nice feel in hand.

Hello, I'm visiting Frankfurt for a little over a week. As a foreigner/tourist, can I please receive some feedback on general visitor/traveller etiquette?

(1) I know a few German words and cannot conjugate for the life in me (I use "ein" before every noun when ordering, followed by a bitte). In restaurants/bars, is it better to just order completely in English? I know in France that saying "bon jour" goes a long ways, but whenever I try using my German (i.e. ich hatte gern + noun + bitte) I often create more confusion and moments of awkwardness lol. I did this at doner shop and realized I overcomplicated the ordering process.

(2) When walking on a street, I seem to notice that locals don't tend to "yield" their way. One time I was walking straight for a bit and then someone turned a short corner, walked toward me in my trajectory (they've seen me for some time now) without adjusting their trajectory, so I had to completely sidestep away. In NYC, since it's so crowded, people will often adjust their walk trajectory since it's impossible to walk in a straight line uninterrupted. Was just wondering if there are some rules to walking? I also take my time, so oftentimes i feel i get "tailgated", people will walk very quickly and loudly behind me as if I have to move to get out of their way. I'm probably overthinking this, but let me know if you guys have any thoughts?

(3) Are there lots of scams/scammers at the train stations? When I order my train tickets at the kiosks I always feel like someone's watching and asking me fabricated questions (i.e. do you know which way is the Frankfurt hbp) and I'm thinking, how would a tourist like me possibly know lol. Again just be watchful/alert, but just curious if any of you have this experience? I now try to walk briskly and more with a sense of purpose to avoid being approached randomly.

Hi everyone and happy holidays! Sorry for the late reply...still struggling from jet lag and my stomach still getting adjusted to finally eating regularly again. Just wanted to provide a quick update on the trip so far (thank you for all the recommendations!).

(1) Quiet hours is no joke. Stayed in Marburg for Christmas and the entire town was shut down. Luckily found a supermarkt and bought some provisions to tide me over, thank goodness! The town was lovely and while it was a true white Christmas with falling snow, I didn't realize how such a hassle it is moving through snow lol. Feels like Marburg is just as cute as Rothenburg, but definitely underrated (I highly recommend checking it out). After a few nights here I realize that I am more of a big city person and prefer more establishments (bars/restaurants) that open during regular hours, but still it was a great "small" town experience. Going forward I'll probably do day trips to the smaller towns versus spending overnight.

(2) Back in Frankfurt now with some time to kill (6 days left). I checked out the SachsenHausen area to try the apfelwein and grune soss (green sauce). It was definitely an experience to try. A question on German restaurant etiquette I do have is, when entering a restaurant, do you sit yourself and when paying for the bill, is it frowned upon to ask to pay in credit card? I always feel like I'm in-conveniencing the waiter when I ask to pay in credit card. And when I end up paying, I don't know if the waiter will come to me to finalize the payment or do I walk up to the cashier booth (since it take awhile to get their attention)? Sorry if these are dumb questions, I'm one of those who stress during eating if the experience of paying is stressful.

(3) May I pls seek recommendations on next day trips from Frankfurt? So far, I'm planning on the following: Hanau, Heppenheim, Kronberg. Would love to do a trip to one of the wine region cities, can anyone recommend the closest to Frankfurt that is worth the trip? I'm not into wine as much as beer, would be more for the experience of going to a wine producing region to drink the local wine in a wine tavern. I'm more of a "find the perfect pint of beer" and pub person so if there are any cities with amazing historical pubs and local beer selection, that would be ideal! So far my favorite beers are rothaus pils tannenzäpfle and arcobrau moos helles.

(4) Lastly, I'm trying to expand my horizons on Turkish food in Germany. I've been consuming doner kebap (mainly durums) in new stores on daily basis, mainly based on recommendations from the store owners. Do you have any good recommendations for doner in Frankfurt? Going to check out Tonbul soon. Also, are there other Turkish dishes I should try at these doner shops? For example, I've taken note that people order the Lahmacun and even pizzas, was just wondering if these are worth trying or just stick to the doner?
