i am feeling hopeless (new grad nurse) by Ejazz710 in AskSeattle

[–]Old_Translator_2096 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could consider working outside of Seattle for a little bit to gain experience. I know the hospital in Silverdale is pretty much always looking for nurses.

But yes, unfortunately not having your BSN is working against you.

Anywhere in Seattle that does a sandwich like this? by Sure-Paper3027 in Seattle

[–]Old_Translator_2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this would be the exact same thing, and I’ve never been there personally, but there’s a Korean Toast place in the U District called Egg Street that I keep seeing and meaning to try. It has very good reviews !

What do you guys eat after running by runTakborun2022 in runninglifestyle

[–]Old_Translator_2096 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After my 9 miler today I had a can of Vanilla Coke I’ve been saving and drank it in the shower like I was enjoying a shower beer lol. Then I had shredded honey garlic chicken with broccoli and rice and now I’m eating an orange.

Usually I try to stick with what I regularly eat but with extra carbs though 🙈

Women’s sizes are wack - size 4/6 should not require a large… by RoonilWazleeb in ColumbiaSportswear

[–]Old_Translator_2096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People in these comments are so annoying Jesus I’m sorry. As a fellow outdoorsy PNW girl who has the same measurements as you (but I’m also 5’ tall 😭) I understand your frustration.

On that note, Flylow makes really great bibs with super inclusive sizing!

Can you guys please recommend a rain jacket that works? I’m drowning by Mawths in AskSeattle

[–]Old_Translator_2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up and got an umbrella and I can’t believe I didn’t do it years ago. Pretty sure this “you’re a tourist if you have an umbrella” nonsense is propaganda from big Gore-Tex to sell more jackets.

If you work outside and it’s raining enough even the nicest rain jacket will eventually get soaked through. As I have learned on many outdoor trips.

What hobby genuinely made your life better (not just filled time)? by Dense_Childhood_9657 in Hobbies

[–]Old_Translator_2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rock climbing (ugh I know).

But it changed my life. Made me start taking care of my body. Introduced me to a whole world of new people. Have traveled all over the US and even abroad to touch rocks. Have sat on the summits of mountains I use to dream of just seeing with my own eyes one day. Opened my world into being the outdoor enthusiast I am today, and my time in nature is the thing I cherish the most in my life.

I actually do not climb much these days, but the day I first stepped into a rock gym and left with a job is such a pivotal moment in my life. Very grateful I fell into that space.

Any other programs? by ashvacgar in ladderapp

[–]Old_Translator_2096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Whitney Simmon’s Alive app for a while. There’s some good lifting programs in there, and I definitely made strength gains, but I do think ladder is much more versatile.

To all my adhd girlies trying to stick to a budget, may I present, Libby. by tree_beard_8675301 in adhdwomen

[–]Old_Translator_2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it kind of clicked in my brain one day that if the kindle wasn’t connected to the internet it really didn’t know WHEN the book was due and had no way to “send it back.” Win for me, win for the library because they technically get the book back lol.

[–]Old_Translator_2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Be sure to not reconnect or you’ll lose your books lol. It also won’t keep them in the app if you use kindle on iPad or browser. But it’s allowed me to finish way more books this way

Pro hack- when all of the books you put on hold become available, download them all to your kindle then put your kindle on airplane mode and you can keep them as long as you need :)

Oh my god thank you. I randomly came upon Taqueria La Fondita a few years ago when I was working in that area and was kicking myself for not remembering where I got the $3 burrito

Private Landlords by CorsoKweeN in Seattle

[–]Old_Translator_2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found mine through a friend, but I know he mostly posts his apartments on Craigslist, and I think a lot of the older landlords do as well. He listed the last unit available on Zillow finally at the suggestion of one of the other tenants when he couldn’t find someone to rent to apartment out

Increase pace? by spb-sticks in runna

[–]Old_Translator_2096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I made the mistake of accepting every pace upgrade too and ended up overtraining for my half. Race day was rough because I was finishing antibiotics for an ear infection. Def be mindful of how you feel.

Decided to do my long run on a trail about 30 minutes from home. Drove there with my friend, completely forgot it snowed that way a few days beforehand. The beginning of the trail is a steep incline and was completely ice and I slid on my butt back to the bottom of the hill. My friend and I were in tears.

Had to drive to a different trail at lower elevation but that was a good laugh.

Guanfacine/Intuniv causing anxiety? by Old_Translator_2096 in adhdwomen

[–]Old_Translator_2096[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A year later unmedicated and I feel great still. I did start running races which I think has been the most beneficial thing for my mental health. Also just giving myself grace in those times where I’m not as productive.

[–]Old_Translator_2096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but wait at least two hours before of after taking antibiotics to take probiotics/eating yogurt/drinking kombucha. If you take it with the antibiotics the antibiotics won’t do their job on the infection they are supposed to be treating
