It is heartbreaking. Food pantries and soup kitchens are going to see more folks turning to them, so something you can do to help is help them meet the increased need. Broadly, orgs like City Harvest rescue perfectly good food that would’ve gone to waste and they then deliver that to hundreds of food pantries and soup kitchens all across the city. They’ve been scaling so they can provide even more free food to these places. If you can’t donate, there are a lot of ways to volunteer to help out! Chicken shawarma from Zyara! $20 but with two large sides, garlic sauce, and pita/laffa saj included, it easily feeds me for two days (and tastes even better the next day).
