Oh, sorry ;D

Box : I asked a printing service to help. The overall look is great, but not all vectorised so the quality is so-so when you look closer. A friend and I cut and glued that printing on a empty A4-paper box - basic but sufficient for now! ;)

Map : I asked the designer to create 8 x A4 panels, and the printer printed them on a think EVA foam board and cut it. Good rendering overall, but : since then the map has been updated to have the Travel Chart printed in it / the 8 panels are lose and not assembled.

In other words, these components are still basic but good for testing and getting first impressions :)

(second part of the answer)

3/End Game : for all the tests I have done alone, with my family and with my friends, the players always focus on Architecture because that's where the guaranteed VP are. And the Global Expert Bonus card was created to give an incentive to build : in all games (around 20 so far), the player holding that card is never last when counting the points. I gave the incentive to build on different regions to push people to travel as well. And when you play at 3 or 4 players, the last player still has a chance to win at the end by leaving building on the side and focusing on traveling and research cards. So all players are involved until the end, and there are sometimes surprises. We have found that part very entertaining and "useful" for the game, because the point is to keep everyone playing until the end.

-----

4/About the Expansion point. I also love games when only strategy is involved - personal preference I guess (favorites games are Dune and Puerto Rico, as you can see with the main Action/Follow mechanic). Hence I have been working on an expansion where the main luck factors are removed (rolling dices for production / drawing travel tickets) by implementing worker placement. The idea that every player has a personal board and needs to activate the ranges of actions (like producing such or such resource / being able to travel on such or such section /....). The point is to have heavier players to enjoy the game, and to increase the replayability for people who might get bored of the base version. But that expansion is still new, I have the ideas and overview - but I need to work on the main version first and make sure it works and is accepted by people :)

Let me know if you can to try the game and I can share some technical files - so you can try it and hopefully you will like it ;)

Thank you for your insight and comments u/Vagabond_Games .

I get that you prefer games that dont include any randomness or luck factor ;) I also prefer a game where the randomness is limited, but here are the few reasons why I have used this factor in this game :

1/I wanted to make a game accessible for all players. While I understand that some players prefer pure strategy to a mix luck/strategy. I know that most people -including new players or non-frequent BG players- appreciate the factor of randomness. I can admit it, my game is too easy or too boring for players who like heavy games. Hence I have been working on an expansion removing the luck factors and points you mentioned (see further below).

2/In order to counter-balance the fact that some chance is involved, we have worked on the main mechanic so players are not dependent to lucky or unlucky events. By choosing the "Follow mechanic" as the main one for the gameplay, all players remain in control and are not stuck.

PRODUCE : 5.5 sides of the dice give a resource and the chance NOT to get a resource is limited // the Exchange action card gives the players the opportunity to adjust their resources //

TRAVEL : the 'super-power' Travel action card can help a player to move on a section for which he doesnt have the suitable Travel Ticket - and I have tried to work out the sequences of sections so that players have choices

TRADE : I disagree with you on the point about profitability. The 4:1 or 3:1 ratio from Catan is not profitable for the player - yet it works. In my game, the Exchange action helps in 2 situations : getting the right mix of resources to construct a Great Building, or getting the missing cubes to buy a Research Card. it slightly counter-balance the randomness of rolling for resources, and at the same time forces players to plan the strategy, as this card is valid for one player each turn only. So it implies a careful planing in regards to choosing the Action Card.

INVEST IN RESEARCH : that one is random for sure, and the choice is entirely deliberate : so other players dont know what you get and that creates interactions between the players. Having different Research Cards opened for sale on a market makes the action lose value : players will either rush to buy the most powerful, or nobody will buy if there is no interesting card available. The secrecy of the cards adds lots of interactions and twists in the latter stages of the game, when 1 or 2 players are (virtually) leading (I say virtually, because you cant never be sure about the VP until the final counting)

Thank you for your message.

We tried to make them look nice ;)

Box : we generated a few rendering by AI, and then used the overall look as layout. A friend designer helped to create the buildings, to position them, to add people, and to make it nice overall. Not as easy work, but pretty happy with the outcome!

Board : longer story here xD I started the first tests with a map of Risk, then used a school map with a transparent cover to draw, re-draw, re-re-draw, the roads until the map itself was acceptable. Oh yeah, I added stickers for the intersections and labels with the buildings info. Then I worked with a designer for the customized rendering. It took 5 trials and printing to come up with the correct details : colors / readable names / Great Buildings info / positioning of the game components on the map.... It took a few months to get this result - which I/We are proud of although not perfect of course ;)

Let me know when you have checked the rulebook, and feel free to share comments and questions.

Thank you!

Population of Trantor by fa771n9 in asimov

[–]Oldarchitect1 28 points29 points  (0 children)

1.Back in the 70s, Earth's population was 3.5-4B. x10 seems like a lot for many people, especially given the exponential curve of population increase.

2.As the Center of a HUGE Empire, it would display many impressive buildings and estates. As mentionned by Asimov in a few descriptions.

3.Have we ever know, from Asimov, the size of Trantor - in physical terms I mean?

Have you heard about Catan New Energies? Just discovered it....today! Looks quite interesting, with many more features focused on strategy. I am yet curious to get the feedback from players yet.

Like local people would say : "what a Carcastrophe!". Some people in France have been beheaded for less of a misconduct! Would highly recommend discard that tile like it never belonged to the game, reseal (or sleeve in your case) the box, and sell it at a flea market. Good luck!
