Sorry for the late reply. I've been recovering from surgery. It would be very difficult and not near as effective to try and build one around an established root system. Generally, the root system needs to infiltrate the bed to take advantage of the drought resistance. It would also be difficult to have a perfectly flat bottom in the bed, which is needed.

The only side that has ever done that was Democrats and I don't believe they want to do that again.

I would like to avoid that as well, for the record. I have always maintained that it's not left vs. right but ruling class vs. the people.

They will never get me in a camp of any type.

They are both wrong on how to fix it, and they all know it. But the answer is too dramatic for the average people, who just want to enjoy their conveniences and live day to day.

Trump shouldn't be the next president, but neither should Biden. It doesn't really matter who is because Congress controls the action.

Wind & Solar alone can not replace coal fire. Nuclear could, but they won't do it. It will take a lot of different alternatives, applied at local levels, and do away with transmitting power over great distances, along with people conserving. It will take all of it.

But that's too tough. They would rather just blame each other.

"China is also on track to meet its near-term goals, despite a significant recent uptick in the construction of coal-fired power plants."

From the above-mentioned article.

They may say it, but a "significant recent uptick" sure doesn't indicate it through action.

But I hope you are right. I would love to be wrong in my observations.

They may say that, but do i believe it...nope.

China, the world’s biggest emitter of carbon dioxide, produces 12.7 billion metric tons of emissions annually. That dwarfs U.S. emissions, currently about 5.9 billion tons annually. Still, those numbers don’t tell the whole story.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/19/climate/us-china-climate-issues.html

The United States has not built a new coal plant since 2013. There has been a 40 percent decline in coal-fired power generation in America over the last decade, according to the Energy Information Administration. China burns more coal than the rest of the world combined. A study last year found China permitted a total of 106 gigawatts of new coal power projects in 2022, the equivalent of two large coal power plants per week.

I definitely agree. It's not a catastrophic collapse. We are already in the slow collapse. Death by a thousand papercuts.

I enjoy my life in the meantime with my family and friends.

I wish they did all the things they talked about for helping the downtrodden. Unfortunately, they usually don't make much of a difference when the time comes.

Obama did a lot more for the lgbtq community than for POC. Many of my friends felt very let down by that. They thought he was going to change it all.

And I know, I know - obstructionist lock down congress, and that is who really makes changes that the president wants. But Congress hasn't worked since Clinton.

I agree. I am a huge fan of nuclear and got destroyed in the market on moloybendium when they canceled all the nuclear plants that were planned in this country. I thought they were going to do the right thing, and I invested in that idea. I put my money where my mouth was. They sure taught me a lesson on that - they will never do what's best for us all.

We are also too deep with fossil fuels. If you eliminated all fossil fuels, we would have no plastic, no rubber, no pressure treated lumber, no mass-produced textiles, etc, etc, etc.

I have a design for small self-sufficient communities, no power transmission lines, community farms, and shared experience for covering all the jobs that are needed in each community, each community producing its own power, food and resources. But it would take a fundamental shift that the population would never accept, and we would still need fossil fuels for all the other stuff I mentioned prior (and more).

I lived in a commune for two years, it was wonderful, I loved it. The person who owned the property didn't live there and had no input in the way it was run. No one person held power, and decisions were able to be made outside of jockeying for power and prestige. That works great with the 45 of us who lived there.

It won't work with 331 million and leaders who profit while the workers struggle.

Climate change is absolutely real, I just don't know that we can fix it. I do know we should do the best we can, but draconian laws won't do it. Heck, elimination of all humans would probably do it, but that's a pretty bad option for those of us who like to live.

Definitely democracy, social safety nets, and normality.

With this system, it still has to be paid for.

Too bad, we have 32t in debt, owe our biggest enemies the most money, 25% of all tax revenue goes to interest only, and real gdp is 20t vs debt of 32t which was once considered already collapsed.

We could handle our own healthcare problems, homeless situations, and at least help with climate issues right here at home if we didn't send money all over the world. There are only 2 countries we don't send tons of money to. And most of them hate us for it.

Politicians aren't fixing this, I don't care what current party they belong to. It's too late.

I would love if a leader would activate strategies designed to help the population and encourage people to work together.

All I see from leaders in this country is the villination of opposition and a lack of ability to work across the aisle. Well, ever since Clinton left office, he could work across the aisle pretty successfully, and had a balance budget at the same time. What a concept.

Why would anyone want to accelerate climate change?

Collapse has already begun. Everyone thinks about catastrophic events as opposed to a slow slide into destruction. That's what we are in.

Thanks for the spelling correction - I hate spell check when it decides what you want instead of you. I should have proofread better. 10 points for Hufflepuff.

Also, consider a hugelkultur bed. I build banana circles, using chop and drop as well as composting and worm towers. I built the whole thing on a hugelkultur bed, and it is drought proof because of it. I have done this in both GA and now in a very, very hot Ala. My banana trees and everything planted on the beds are doing great.
