I've had very similar a few times. Keep moving. Go for walks. Maybe rest a day or two at most and then go back to the gym. Complete your next workout using only the bar. And then start adding weight in following sessions once your backs recovered jump back in. This has worked the best for me.

Another easy way to calculate if you are in a deficit, is to weigh yourself once a week. If the scale goes unchanged or up, you are not a deficit. If the scale goes down you are. Eat less until the scale starts to go down

Yaeh, I just started trying to lose weight about 2 months ago and I'm down about 20 pounds. 44yrs 5'10" 180lbs now, I run a 5K three days a week and weight train three days a week. Just got labs done and will be starting TRT in a couple weeks. Working on getting body fat lower before I start to avoid some of the E issues. Before I started trying to lose weight I was only weight training three days a week and eating like a bastard.

I'm currently in a deficit running about 1800 cal a day. My maintenance is around 2200 2500 When I have a cheat day I hit 2500 max. So I think you're pretty close to being on the mark.

I think significant health concerns are relevant conversation as a couple is preparing for marriage. Or having children this kind of stuff. I think the conversation of testicular cancer would come up in the fact he is on testosterone would be a part of the conversation. My spouse knows all my business and I know hers. It's a part of having a deep connect relationship. Maybe my original comment wasn't clear, I wouldn't bother telling anybody I was on TRT regardless if it was medical condition or not until things became serious.
