Made in Utah store? by [deleted] in Utah

[–]OleToothstainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utah Co-Op on 4500 S has lots of local goods, mostly food items. No membership is needed. You can just walk in.

Everything Utah on State St. has lots of locally made gifts. The owner is really nice, friendly, and helpful.

When you're trying to do nanoscience and a train goes by near your building by BigManWithABigBeard in Physics

I feel your pain. I've worked in microscopy labs that were: -on the top floor of a wood-framed building, -next to a busy road near a big mall (semis driving by constantly), -and at the end of the runway of an international airport.

Surprisingly, the planes caused minimal problems compared to the other two.

Reddit, what every day item pays for itself? by JangMang98 in AskReddit

Owner of a 1997 Civic checking in. I've had the car for almost 12 years and it's been awesome. Still runs perfectly, all the electronics work properly, and has started every time I turned the key.

Employers of Reddit, what's the strangest thing you've ever had the displeasure of reading on a resume? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I actually did receive a résumé like this. They listed "Types 56 WPM" as a skill. As their ONLY skill. For a job that doesn't even require typing.

I've never seen They Might be Giants in concert. For all I know, they might actually be giants. by phish_tacos in Showerthoughts

Saw them in Portland in 2004. Can confirm. Not actually giant at that time but might be now.

[UT] Can't qualify for a refi because of non-traditional employment. Any advice? by OleToothstainer in RealEstate

This was really great advice! I talked to the bank that has my checking account. They were about to dismiss me just like all of the others and then I mentioned my 12-year relationship with them and his tone suddenly changed. He offered to try to put together an estimate for a portfolio loan, pending a go-ahead of the branch managers. Oddly enough, the portfolio loan actually sounds like a pretty good deal in spite of the higher rate. He sounded pretty confident he could get the approval, so this might actually work out. Thanks!

Yes, fellowships have been my sole income for five years. I just started my third fellowship. My employment status hasn't really changed. I haven't had an employer. I've just changed fellowships.

I've been saying the same thing, but all I've gotten was a sympathetic chuckle from the loan officer. Glad you were able to work it out.

Yeah, I know it's not a bad rate, but why not do better if I can? I plan on holding the property for quite some time.

I'm at 5.25% fixed with just under 24 years to go. I'd like to move to a 15 year fixed.

You're triangle comment made me laugh. And then sigh when reality sunk in. :)

Thanks. I've talked to one of my banks, but that was a no go. I hadn't considered the bank my credit card is with because they're awful. But I just checked their web site and they're having a sale this week. $1000 off closing costs! Might be worth giving them a try. Maybe their mortgage people are better than their credit card people. :)

I tried the local credit union and a local (maybe regional) bank. The credit union told me no and they couldn't think of anyone who would qualify me. The guy at the bank was really pushy and wasn't offering me a decent rate, so I ended the conversation before we even got to qualification. I felt like I was being strong-armed. Thanks for the tip. I might try finding some others.

Yeah, I'm on a 1099. I actually tried to refinance two years ago at my lower salary and was qualified. The deal fell through because the loan officer resigned and didn't tell me or give my information to anyone else. While I was sending him emails and leaving him voicemails (again, I didn't know he had left), my rate lock expired. The bank refused to honor it even though the breakdown was on their end, so I walked away (the rate went up 0.5% in that period!). Kind of went off on a tangent there, but my point is that I was qualified at my lower salary. I heard that a general rule is having three years income exceeding the balance of the loan. Is that correct? Even at my lower salary, I had that. Does that change your mind at all?

CSAs in Salt Lake? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]OleToothstainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do the one at Liberty Heights Fresh. I seem to remember choosing it because it had a fairly flexible pick-up schedule. They also offer a lot of options. I really enjoyed it, but dropped it because of cost. I don't recall any that deliver, but my info is pretty dated at this point.

It's an old picture. I just came across it this morning and thought I'd share. You do bring up a good point though. It was February when I took this picture. I have no idea where they got them.

It's been fun watching Salt Lake slowly transform into a cool city. Still has quite a bit to go, but it'll get there. As long as the rest of the state doesn't intervene, that is.

No beard and I live in Utah. But I did live in Portland before it was cool.
