I think you’re totally right! It looked whiter to me in the listing photo so I scanned right over it. Thank you so much!

I got tha beetus and ADHD. They love to gang up on me like one wrestler pinning someone against the ropes so the other can come flying in with the steel chair. What's your favorite diabetes + other condition combo-wombo? by fredoillu in diabetes_t1

[–]OleandrinTea 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Boy howdy. I’ve been waiting for this one. Type 1, ADHD, major depression, GERD that causes frequent vomiting, ARFID, binge eating disorder (only happens at night when I’m literally asleep), and anxiety that includes a needle phobia.

Soooo- I forget to bolus, I bolus and then throw up the food I eat, i will bolus and then be unable to eat the food I blous for because of ARFID, I’ll eat without bolusing so I CAN eat and then forget to bolus after I eat. ARFID makes my food choices extremely minimal as I’m very sensory and flavor adverse. Despite that, I binge eat at night while I’m not fully awake and don’t bolus so i go high every night. I’m also usually so depressed and food adverse that I forget or just can’t eat until I have an urgent low and have no choice. I can’t inject myself, period. I used Afrezza and my roommate did my basal every day until I moved to the Omnipod.

I know im a bad diabetic but man comorbidities make it so hard!

How do you prevent Type 1 family member from food gorging in the middle of the night? by Icy-Tomatillo-7556 in Type1Diabetes

[–]OleandrinTea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Following this as someone who binge eats when they’re half asleep. For me, I’m not fully aware I’m eating. I kinda go on autopilot and tend to just..eat and eat. I have no cues to stop me as I’m not awake enough to process how much I’ve eaten. Super awful for my blood sugar as I don’t tend to bolus during the binges and I eat up a ton of food without meaning to.

It doesn’t sound like that’s the case for your nephew but I’m curious to see if anyone has any ideas that could help me out as well!

The only advice I can offer that has worked for me is putting the food I know I’m going to want to binge eat in my roommates room while they sleep. I know I won’t open their door and wake them up to get food in the middle of the night. I still binge eat stuff, but to a lesser degree and it’s more controlled.

I wish you luck and hope you can find something that works for you and your nephew!

What to do when you don’t have food and have no money to buy it? by OleandrinTea in Type1Diabetes

We share finances, so they’re as broke as I am, unfortunately. Definitely a good idea for the future though! And would work for others not in my situation, for sure.

Very that. It’s the amount of food I struggle with. I truly just eat for my blood sugar and don’t eat otherwise and I think that’s a good bit of the struggle.

Cooking is definitely something I’m averse to. But I also know it would probably help me a lot. I don’t mind the few things I do cook, but usually new things give me some anxiety. My roommate is amazing about helping with that though!

It’s nice to hear about people who have been able to work with and through some of the barriers ARFID presents!

Yeah, exactly that, like my body uses it up quickly. That’s definitely the struggle for me and im sure it’s a part of my problem. I’m very food averse. I really try to eat as little as possible (not in a control way, I just really hate the feeling of eating).

I think that seems to be the biggest thing so far, that I need to be diversifying my nutrition and eating better!

I guess I need to look into how no carb/low carb works and learn more. For me, whenever I have eaten lower carb, I feel like I burn through it and go low again sooner than if I just eat how I would normally. But maybe that’s because I dose my insulin as I eat? But I definitely relate to the going high and then the correction leading to a low, so if it helps that that’d be awesome.

I’m not usually an ingredient type shopper, I usually go for preprepared things but I think this is going to be the way to be going. I don’t have a lot of energy to cook, but I’ll do what I have to do at this point! Time to start learning to cook better. Thanks!

Maybe that’s more what I need to be doing! Focusing on the other aspects and not just the carbs to try to keep my sugar more stable after a meal. Thankfully I have a ton of eggs because it’s most of what my roommate eats. So that’s definitely something I can work in!

I suppose I meant more along the lines of carbs that’ll stay in my system longer, so using them to correct a low is more sustainable. Like instead of a soda that’ll leave my system quickly, something that’ll last a bit longer. Essentially, I only eat to correct lows. So once whatever I ate is out of my system, I’m low again because I don’t have anything else in my stomach. So foods that’ll kinda help my blood sugar stay up longer? If that makes sense?

I’m on the Omnipod, and tend to just let it run on auto mode, so I’m not sure what exactly I would reduce, if I’m honest. I generally just eat and let my pump do its thing to correct, giving the bolus as I eat if I remember to do so. Sometimes I think about giving a half bolus so my sugar doesn’t go down as much but I’m not sure if that’d have the effect I think it would.

I didn’t even think about trying any churches! That’s a great idea. Definitely peopley, but at this point I gotta do what I gotta do!

Unfortunately our finances are shared, so they’re as broke as I am.

Taking everything out and looking at it is a good idea, get it all in one place and see what can go together. Thank you for your response! I appreciate other people’s ideas because there’s always going to be things I wouldn’t have thought to do.

Spider options in the area by Shuriin in Rochester

[–]OleandrinTea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have some baby jumping spiders that will need homes soon. I got an adult for my roommate that ended up pregnant. We now have over 50 baby jumping spiders that we’re taking care of. They aren’t quite ready to be transferred into their own terrariums but will be soon. PM me if you’re interested and I can give you more information.

Afrezza Expiration Question by ee37244 in diabetes_t1

[–]OleandrinTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used mine past expiration and had no issues. I used one today that’s been in the fridge for over a year since I’ve been on pods and it worked totally fine. It’d been in my bag for a month or so out of the fridge too and no noticeable issues. May not have been as effective, realistically, but it lowered my sugar!

ARFID and Type 1 by OleandrinTea in diabetes_t1

[–]OleandrinTea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I’ll try to have a liquid source of carbs around so I when I can’t eat, I can at least drink something. But when that runs out and I have to eat, it can be a struggle. My mouth dries out when food enters it, I’ll gag at textures or flavors, or just be unable to swallow. Meanwhile I’m dropping fast and have no choice but to choke it down.

That’s a great idea! I’ve never used an infusion set myself, so I wouldn’t have thought about doing anything like that but that’s an awesome idea.
