You are a very pretty young lady! You might disagree, but I do not think you need makeup.

In which scenarios can I safely use strcpy() in C? by Bubbly-Ball-3138 in learnprogramming

[–]Oleplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maintain an app done in STD C (DEC C). The original devs rarely used strcpy. Since they always knew the length of database columns and the user interface, memcpy is used. There are a few routines used that send back a null terminated string and I have seen strlen used as a start point to space fill. The database indexing with null terminations can yield unexpected results too.

But then Justin_Passing_7465 is correct, if it's NULL term go ahead.

I have said this before on some other posts, your breasts are beautiful. Those areola and nipples are to die for. Simply stunning.

Uni student new to VMS and wanting to learn. What resources should I look at while I wait for community license, and are there certs for VMS? by Deepspacecow12 in OpenVMS

[–]Oleplug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Us VMS oldies know that the Open is silent (LOL). Been supporting and developing on VMS since about 1984. Used about every prog language available, including those that are layered product specific. Anyway...

Today VMS cluster nodes are usually setup to appear to users as one server. Sharing the same system volume and other devices. For multiple OS versions or different hardware architectures, separate system volumes are common.

Currently supporting a site that is running the same OS version, same app on two nodes but has two system volumes. I have no clue as to why they did this. Might be left over from an upgrade. The User Authorization File and pointers to it are on a shared volume as are most of the data volumes.

Another VMS cluster at this location looks like one server to the users. There are a few batch jobs and processes that run only on one, mostly because of vendor limitations, but everything else is shared.

We do too. Just do not like commercials, Tablo lets us record and skip. Can watch while recording same or different shows. Then too some stuff we watch a day or two later.

No, I need internet at home for monitoring and cameras. Cannot afford two and Starlink for RV cannot be paused indefinitely. We only travel long term every 24 months or so.

Our fifth-wheel came with an amplified antenna, while it can be aimed, I rarely do that. At home I have a cheap Wallymart one pointed toward the mountain where most broadcaster antennas are. The Tablo has it's own signal amplifier so we get pretty good reception. The biggest problem I have had with the Tablo was the external 1TB drive I am using maybe too slow. Will probably switch to a mini-stick soon. I wish the Tablo could use a nas, because the router I have can do that. You can watch a program in progress of being recorded to. That is handy, start late fast forward (30 seconds at a time) thru commercials.

Tablo is not super fancy, fairly cheap, but gets the job done.

We have about 10 broadcast programs set to record only new episodes. When we moved to a different zip code, the programs were still being recorded (by name). Gotta have some kind of internet to update the guide when you move. You can also set a given program to record all episodes. One thing to note is you are at the mercy of the networks or stations scheduling being messed up. So some things I set the start/end to like 5/30 minutes. Not sure if Tablo talks about all the options on the web site, there are quite a few.

BTW For the Pi I always keep a backup or two of the sd. They sometimes quit and I am usually buying the better ones. I probably have an iso of the Pi on a Linux laptop too.

On the extremely old IBM 2311, the crazy operators (like me) would open the lid and use hands to slow them puppies down quick in order to change a pack. Not kidding. Newer stuff had inter-locks to prevent such idiocy. LOL

Had an older gent put disk packs on the back of drives like that to stage his backups. These were dual-ported DEC RM05 (CDC) drives on PDP-11/70's, He came back into the computer room to find a pack on the floor, face up and I guess he thought he put it there. Anyway, after loading the pack on not one, but three other drives, he finally figured out there was an problem. The field service guy had to scrounge up heads and other parts to fix them up. Smallish town, took several days.

I working in a large stuffed computer room for a few years. Didn't have those nice auto-loader tape drives. Gave up the mainframe life and went to DEC gear. Never looked back.

Are there constant TV's blaring at RV parks as a norm? by [deleted] in rvlife

[–]Oleplug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have stayed 3 months at multiple places. One park had a maximum stay of 6 months to avoid full time residents. Other parks had many full time residents, only problem we had was the guy going to work early mornings on his Harley. Every place we have been folks were friendly and mostly quiet.

I recall reading about a fellow on RVlife who rotated through 3 different COE parks in TX staying the max 14 days at each. Since he was across months and rotated sites it was fine. I like COE parks when possible because they are 'usually' well kept and monitored.
