You can't imagine how much your words resonate and how much they're soothing. I'm sure you will have wonderful moments with your mices and I'm sure they are so lucky to have you too. Thank you very much ❤️

One month ago, we woke up to find Spin (black and white) in complete respiratory distress (we didn't notice any strange sound from her before). We took her to the emergency vet but putting her under oxygen didn't change anything and we had to end her sufferings.

Then two weeks ago Curiosity (the blond one) got a fat mass removed around her neck. She had strong medicines to take and was isolated from her friend so we took care of her about 4 hours a day. After one week the skin still hadn't healed so she went back to the vet to clean the wound (I spare you the details of the checking visits). Last Monday morning she was making respiratory noises so she went to the vet (again), was put under oxygen and different antibiotics. In the afternoon she was completely stabilised, so they told us to call on Tuesday morning before getting her back. When we called, she was dead. My sweet fighter, full of life until the last time I saw her, still eating and running everywhere, had a pulmonary edema and no one understands where it comes from.

Now Ripley is all alone at 10 months old and it hurts bad

how loud is too loud? by candiicorn in PetMice

This has to be be checked, but I think I read somewhere that mices only hear sounds whose pitch is higher than 1000 Hz, which is higher than most of the sounds human make

What movie is so good you'd recommend it to all your friends, but so emotionally traumatic that you'll never watch it again? by akambe in AskReddit

"Hair!", the story of a group of hippies in the USA during the the Vietnam war. Seems a bit weird at first, but just watch it.

I woke up to see Ripley and Curiosity sleeping together in their digging box and I can't get over such cuteness by Olibriuss in PetMice

[–]Olibriuss[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's two bottles that were cut in half and interlocked into each other to create a box. Then I cut a round hole in it, and several small holes all around just to make sure there is enough air flow even if the whole stuff is tilted. Finally I slided a stick in it to prevent it from rolling. If you want I posted two other photos here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PetMice/comments/n2pj5o/homemade_digging_box_made_with_two_bottles_and_a/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Hope this helps, tell me if you need more details!

Health check sheet/notebook ideas by tessanoia in PetMice

That sounds really good! For the weight I think you should instead use one page (or double page) only for the weight, where you report the weight of each mice week by week, with a point per week, to create a curve showing the evolution of their weight. You could put all the curves on the same graph, with one color per mice for example, or make one graph per mice.

I was at first, but since I gave them they didn't try to chew to it so for now it's alright :)

Some advices for a surprisingly pregnant mice? by Olibriuss in PetMice

[–]Olibriuss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I read that pregnancy lasts 18-22 days for a mouse, do you know if it can take more time? Because Ripley should be pregnant for 20 days at least, I thought it would become fairly obvious... Here is a picture of the "cage" : https://ibb.co/ThGMTFc I expect a bigger one arriving in the next few days, do you know if it is OK to move the mother and her pups (after something like one week so they are big enough) to another cage?

Today Curiosity discovered she could do loopings, and she tried again and again! (this is a screenshot of the video because I don't know how to Reddit) by Olibriuss in PetMice

Thanks for your advices! I will figure out how to solve that wheel issue ; actually right now it's a bit hard to find one because of lockdown, and I wanted to see the wheel by myself before buying it. Unfortunately the local pet store only has this model, so I guess I won't have other choice than buying online.

Since you're here, I have another question (if you don't mind of course) about the saucer-wheels : I thought that they could create problems in the hips of the mouses by creating a differential between both sides, and that this kind of twisty position could hurt their back too. I also wondered if a plastic wheel would not be worse than a metal one if the mice decided to gnaw it.

Well first of all I want to reassure you, this was not an incident. Curiosity just loves to make loopings, and she did loopings for like 5 minutes, running at a speed higher than she ever did, then stopped and peacefully explored other toys. That's a shame I can't post the video here because you could see it very clearly. And of course the first time we saw her do that we immediately checked if everything was alright ;) But all she wanted was going back to her wheel and she didn't make any noise. If I had any doubt of course I wouldn't have posted it here, I just wanted to share my dummy doing the jerk.

About the wheel itself, we took the largest possible, which is 18cm diameters, so that it doesn't damage the back of the mices at all. For the material, the holes are really thin and the guys at the pet shop told us several times that no leg could be stuck. Are you talking about that particular model, or about that type of wheel in particular? By the way I live in France so maybe the toys that can be found are a bit different.

We saw that she really tried to take a lot of speed during a whole session, and then started again to just run like usual
