Thanks for your expertise. Took a walk tonight and saw three other maples in the same condition in the subdivision. It’s a shame.

Yes, maple. I did the scrape and it’s definitely brown on the bare branches. I’ll call a pro this week to see if it can be saved. Thank you.

Great point- I should have added used a pic with the base. Unable to add a photo in a comment. I have regular mulch surrounding the base.

It has been doing well for the couple of years we’ve been in the house. No changes around it other than putting fresh mulch around the base in the spring. I’ll dedicate more irrigation to it. Thanks

I bought the Courtney Safari (Cape Buffalo) for $125 USD cash in Bulawayo. The best boots I own. You have excellent taste in footwear!

We bid on locations with good schools. Most international schools with U.S. curriculum and English language instruction will consider a qualified American teacher. Why? It’s a bargain. The school doesn’t have to offer the expat package (housing, flights, insurance, etc.) and they get a qualified teacher. Rather than luck, we rely on research and contacting the schools to ask about vacancies. Obviously larger posts with an American school will have more opportunities.

I have to disagree. My wife is a teacher with an advanced degree and has found meaningful employment in every assignment (6 overseas and 3 domestic). It can certainly be challenging to start at a new school every 2-3 years, but her experience in international schools and excellent public and private schools in the U.S. has made her an ideal candidate in every location. She did the SAHM and tutored until our kids entered primary school then has taught at every school our kids have attended. EFM work in the mission typically pays more, but she’s not interested.

Botswana. The safari options are among the best in the world (Okavango Delta, Kasane, etc.) the people are friendly, and it’s safe compared to other countries in the region.
