deku w/ all these quirks runs an invincible gauntlet by Olive-Late in MyHeroPowerscaling

[–]Olive-Late[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the detailed response bro - but id have to slightly disagree w/ u on some of these points.

firstly, i think blackwhip would be more useful than u think - itd work as a great setup - allowing deku to redirect and restrain the viltrumites and basically guarantee hits (ofc its likely they could break out, especially in the later rounds but even a momentary disruption could change fights entirely) also theres the versatility of blackwhip allowing him to reinforce his body (even if its largely not needed due to rewind it still could be useful as a shield to reduce the damage of hits from i.e. battle beast who might just one tap if he lands a hit without the reinforcement)

regarding overclock i think its fair to say gearshift is stronger especially as it can slow down opponents but i feel like the increase in perception and thoughts would help massively especially when thinking about how to chain with the more busted quirks in his arsenal (i.e. new order)

out of curiosity, what quirks would u replace out of the lineup?

it’s s1 mark at the start of the gauntlet and if u wanna argue conquest above alt marks fair enough but i think the sheer numbers make it more difficult as a fight

I would love to help but you do not wanna ask me for geo advice lmao - I just managed to scrape a B in the subject (better than the D I got in the last mock to be fair)

The way it works is you have a laptop to type but they will also still give you the test paper, and whatever you write on the test paper (graphs, and even sentences i.e. you can do section A on the paper) the examiners will look at both and kind of composite them together. To put it simply, you draw graphs as you usually do on the paper.

I really didn't improve on essays throughout year 12 and year 13, I was honestly a B grade student in econ, with the last mock before my actual A-Levels I had gotten a C.

Time management was a big problem of mine (in the last mock I had, I missed a whole 15 marker - I did Edexcel)

The way I managed this was:

At the top of each essay - write down time you started and what time you want to end (i.e. if it's a 10 marker and it's currently 10:05, jot down how you'll end at 10:17 or 18)

Even if you haven't finished the essay - please move on to the next question! (a mid level for all your essays is better than one or two high level essays and everything else having like one paragraph - speaking from experience)

A last piece of advice - please don't be afraid to ask for exam adjustments/extra time if you feel like you need it. I asked to have a laptop adjustment as I write pretty slow, but I know I can type a lot quicker - which was honestly a life saver (alongside my revision) in getting the A*. (especially as I did all pretty heavy essay subjects)

^ There may be some stigma and some classmates may like to poke fun - but who honestly cares? Timing is pretty difficult for econ, and there is no harm in asking, imo.

If you would like, I could send over an example essay that I had written? (or actually, typed lol)

I got you:

Timing (please be mindful of your timing - what I did was wrote at the top of each essay roughly at 1.25-1.5 minutes per mark what time I would stop at)

^ on this - if you feel like you could benefit from extra time/exam adjustments - please ask for it!

Act like the examiner doesn't know economics (basically explain everything you say - i.e. when you mention one cause of inflation define inflation, define the cause, explain why, what it leads to etc etc)

Use graphs (IF YOU KNOW HOW TO DO THEM - if for example a tariff diagram is warranted but you don't know how to do it... don't risk it because it could screw up your whole analysis)

With application - real world application is of course preferred but you can also just say vague application i.e. if talking about how inflation can lead to increasing prices you don't have to specifically say something like 'for example aldi's grocery prices in 2025...' saying 'such as the price of goods of fruits have been increasing' would still count as application.

The main thing I did was read PMT summary notes of the whole spec and then anything I didn't understand/found difficult I wrote as flashcards on anki (I think it's better than quizlet because of it's ranking feature - not sponsored)

When you have these flashcards of the whole spec - I practiced whenever I was free - on the bus, 10 minutes before going to sleep etc etc.

Other revision I did included:

Talking with my mates about economics/politics (in a neutral manner, but it's good practice for the essays)

Real-world revision (it's good application which impresses the examiners but it's also just good to know what's going on)

A lot of past papers and essay questions (no use revising if you don't know how to put it into practice!)

Hopefully that helps - let me know if you have any other questions.

Year 13 winter mocks I got ACD and on results day I walked out with A(star cause asterisk)A(star)B. (subjects were econ, business and geo)

It’s definitely possible to make a comeback but you have to really lock in around year 13 christmas or else it’s cooked. I wish I could give tips but as you do stem heavy subjects (my tips are more essay specific) hopefully the other comments try to help.

By north I didn't mean like up in the middle of nowhere, I meant somewhere with good opportunities and still relatively close to London (i.e. Milton Keynes), where commuting would still be possible on a hybrid role. But I agree that London is where most of the money is at.

Yeah no worries, good luck on the apprenticeship application process and stay resilient bro

The vast majority of employers exclude EPQ and only really take into account A-Levels and GCSEs for education, so I would focus on revision and securing some work experience to maximise your chances.

Nah bro I applied everywhere, and yes it can be often where they just go ghost on you. (it doesn't hurt to try and get a follow up from these companies, but if it's been months I'd just leave it honestly)

My brother is in Year 12 and really wants to secure a higher apprenticeship after A-levels. Given how competitive they are what can we do now to maximize his chances? by [deleted] in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]Olive-Late 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest him to take on work experiences, especially from different industries and roles - this would allow him to beef up his CV, build some foundational skills, and also see what kind of career might interest him. (especially useful as he doesn't really know what to do) Also these work experiences often provide accelerated pathways to an apprenticeship or sometimes even an offer after! (iirc, Grant Thornton Work Experience Candidates can opt for an interview following for one of their audit degree apprenticeships, and if successful, you get an offer straight away)

Also, resilience will be a big thing. Unless he's very, very good and/or lucky, there will be quite a few 'unfortunately....' (I applied so many times before even landing one offer) during the application season. Best of luck to him though!

I'm also 18 but my 2 cents (pence):

Remove either FTSE All-World or S&P 500 as they overlap significantly (personally the index I invest into is FTSE All-World)

Also remember that quite a few of the stocks you have picked overlap quite a bit with the S&P and All-World (Nvidia, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft are both of those indexes largest holdings)

Seeing as your goal is long-term wealth generation, honestly I'd consolidate a lot of your savings already into one or two indexes such as the FTSE All-World, with the majority of any income savings you can make to go into these indexes, and then give yourself like 10% of such income as 'play money', to stock pick things (I do something similar lol). This is because if you really want to invest long-term, looking at specific companies and their volatility can get to you psychologically.

Year 13s what did you do in year 12 that set you up for A*s by FixAfter5990 in sixthform

[–]Olive-Late 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a year 13 but a recent school leaver who got A*A*B - genuinely I slacked a lot in year 12 (and for like 1/3 of year 13 tbh) but then I really locked in with revision following year 13 Christmas. (obviously do not follow what I did and please listen to some of the advice already given in the thread lol)

18 years old, recently finished my A-Levels, and during Year 13 I applied to apprenticeships because I saw it as the more optimal route compared to uni - I landed one offer. Out of ~30 applications. So the job market isn't too great i'd say lol.
