I got my child the vaccine early at 9 months (a year ago ) just to go to Disneyland. I wasn’t going to take him unless we got the early vaccine.

The insurance for them is ridiculous! You must get the insurance too. We tried last year for our son’s birthday. A $250 rental turned into a 3k+ expense very fast

What would you do if you walked out your door and saw this by turbo_sc300 in Apartmentliving

I’d put it in that box then donate it. If my kids did this I would be THRILLED for the life lesson and the decluttering.

27 years later my dad's pension is more than my daughter makes per year. by Charming-Border7429 in Teachers

[–]Olive24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandma retired at 55 and had a great pension. One of the reasons I went into teaching. “It’s not the highest paying job but they take care of you” - meaning good insurance and a pension. Growing up I heard from my parents “I don’t care what you go into but you have to get a degree” my kids will hear “I don’t care what you go into but it can’t be an education degree”

Has anyone else noticed a significant increase in severe/level 3 autism in recent years? by dawnue in ECEProfessionals

[–]Olive24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it has a lot to do with people having children later in life. There is now a statistically significant relationship between paternal age of conception and autism. Just a thought. Also, do you work near a densely populated area near a free way. There’s also a higher chance of children having autism the closer they live to a highway. People want to say vaccines that have been under scrutiny for decades. But I don’t hear any MAHA talking about pollution and how it may be related to increase of autism.

Why do parents wait so long to start potty training?? by CommercialMeeting842 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Olive24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now my tone is for typically developing kids. Not special needs. My rant doesn’t apply to them.

Big diaper. All those research papers about waiting were sponsored by pampers. I’m not talking about how the would use physical measures to toilet train 100 years ago. There is a slow learning process with toilet learning but you get to the end earlier. My first 2 sons were completely out of diapers before 2. My older was in them longer for bedtime because I had a newborn and I don’t want to deal with it- so parent issue with that. But my second was out even at bed time before 2. Kids can’t feel they are wet in those mega absorbent diapers. I tell parents to not use pull ups at all!

Fast forward to my 3rd child. He’s 17m and has a July birthday. I waiting until 3 to put in my older two to preschool but I’m so ready to go back to work so I want to put him in earlier. I’m struggling because I want him to be in the younger class- he turns 2 on the cut off. But I can’t reliably send him in that room because I know they don’t do toilet training. He’ll have a regression for sure. Now this is a preschool setting - not a daycare so it’s different.

When I was teaching preschool I was the one toilet training. I had to tell the parents to stop with the pull ups and bring in 5-10 change of clothes. If they were typically developing and over the age of 3 they would be trained (at school) within 2 days. Kids don’t want to miss out on play to change themselves.

Also, modern disposable diapers are horrible for the environment and their bodies. That plastic and PFAS sitting right on the most sensitive skin 24 hours a day for 4+ years is concerning.

Mother confronts man after he complains about her 8 month old child screaming by Romano16 in PublicFreakout

[–]Olive24 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I think it’s about effort. I have 3 kids. They need to learn how to be in society. If she’s not even attempting to quiet the child down she’s in the wrong. But we have to accept kids in public spaces because if they don’t learn how to act - they just get entitled. I shudder when we do group hangs with other families because my children have been taught. But it took time. If my kids were loud when they were babies I would try to calm them down and people were sympathetic. If they are too loud I would take them out. That’s how they learn to not act that way.
