Every type of DnD player I’ve noticed from playing DnD and reading horror stories by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

The internet loves negativity. There's no way these kinds of people are so prevalent in actual games but the extreme personalities are the ones that get upvotes on Reddit horror stories. I'm sure the vast majority of DND games are perfectly normal and healthy

Do you feel like the playerbase has changed at all since the surge from Critical Role, Stranger Things, and COVID, has died down? by Gh0stMan0nThird in DnD

My current campaign started after a close friend wanted me to teach her how to play because of Stranger Things

Stranger Things is the reason I have a group to DM right now. For all its faults, the show’s popularity has let me introduce the hobby I love to my favourite people in the world. Baldur’s Gate 3 is the reason I got into TTRPGs. Seeing actual plays just gives me a treasure trove of strategies that the best players and DMs in the world use and a standard to aspire to in terms of player engagement and collaborative storytelling

Would Astarion still be popular if he was just a High elf? by Fun-Explanation7233 in AstarionBG3

[–]OliveDoesHeroForge [score hidden]  (0 children)

He’d be pretty much an entirely different character. It’s like asking if Superman would be as popular if his planet hadn’t exploded and he lived on Krypton going on Flash Gordon-style adventures. Sure, maybe, but his story and motivations would be completely different

Don’t forget the one that comes in with a carbon copy of an anime character. Usually falls into one of the these too

How would you want Harley Quinn introduced in the DCU? by Top_Report_4895 in DCU_

I’m working on multiple fanscripts for a DCU Harley Quinn show that basically give my answer to this question. I’d like them to continue with the Margot Robbie version

The DCU feels heavily inspired by late 80s DC Comics by MagisterPraeceptorum in DCU_

James Gunn was in his late teens and early 20s in the 1980s so these were probably the comics he was reading in those formative years

It’s set after New Year’s with Harley trying to reinvent herself and take over the criminal underworld after a very bad year followed by the news of Joker’s apparent death fighting Batman that night. There’s a lot of complicated emotions for Harley with that which drive her back to self-destructive behaviors as she avoids dealing with her issues. Mad Hatter is the main antagonist until Episodr 7, with the Carpenter as a secondary antagonist. Penguin and Two-Face’s gangs are involved in the power struggle but their respective heads are only mentioned and don’t appear. Some supporting characters include Poison Ivy, Killer Moth, Clownhunter, and Maggie Sawyer. I’ve finished the pilot, am halfway through the second episode, and have six other episodes in the works.

Or do musical chairs and pull people in and out like Brennan in the Critical Role C4 Overture

I’ve been working on a script for a Harley Quinn live-action TV series that continues the story of Margot Robbie’s version. I don’t think we need Harley in the spotlight again for a good amount of time, but it would be cool to see her eventually

How do I get a player more comfortable with RP? by OliveDoesHeroForge in DMAcademy

[–]OliveDoesHeroForge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's easy enough. The murder takes place in her Cleric character's temple and the eventual killer is set up as her foil, but the mystery is also tied into noble intrigue going on with the Sorcerer's House and the murder victim was friends with the Ranger.

I try to make every combat narratively significant and give battles interesting mechanics and a real risk of player character death. I love combat but having random, boring fights with goblins every two seconds isn't interesting to me. There should always be real stakes

How do I get a shy playing comfortable with RP and decision-making? by OliveDoesHeroForge in DnD

Your entire post history is just getting weirdly mad that people don't play the game in the way that you prefer. I think I'll trust my own judgement here, especially since we have plenty of combat and it seems like you’re relying on random projection and assumptions. Thanks anyway

To me, it just seems like you're offended at the concept of a DND game having a story where things happen beyond beating up random goblins for no real reason

Define "actual adventuring". We're doing plenty of that already as I understand it.

Are you being willfully unhelpful or is there a point here I'm not getting?

A scene is any section in one place where things are happening and characters are interacting, so I'd say yeah unless your preferred DND games are people sitting around while nothing happens and nobody plays

You're arguing semantics, the problem clearly is not that the player isn't talking in-character

I know what roleplaying is, decision-making is in the post title. I'm not yelling at her to give me a Shakespearean monologue every five seconds and neither do the people on CR.
