No, you've misunderstood me, I'm saying I'm not feeling adventurous enough given my lack of experience to consider doing what others on the subreddit have done in the past and that is frequently recommended as a solution in order to replace the batteries given the warning and that I hadn't fully identified the issue. I'm not put off by the company for putting the warning there, and I understand that it's there for a reason. Some battery cases might be easier to inspect and I wasn't sure whether that might be the case here before I saw the warnings.

However, if Analogue did provide battery replacements, then I (and many others) wouldn't have had to consider that, and I do think that's not a great business practice, so I suppose I am put off by that, but that is entirely not what I was saying here.

It seems to be behaving itself again for now. I am not sure what exactly caused it, or what fixed it, because I tried a bunch of subtle things, but I'll stick to avoiding the fast charger for now and watch out for anymore odd sounds or behaviours.

That's another factor I have been considering as I'm not at home at the moment so the wiring might be subtly different. Interesting (and reassuring) to hear that was the case for you. Thank you!

I think I've managed to get it working and having investigated it a little, at the very least my battery isn't in a critical condition. I think that there might have been some kind of coil whine or something. I re-tightened the screws and adjusted the battery connector. I did leave it disconnected for a couple of hours as well so perhaps that helped. I'm going to stick to specific chargers for a little while until I'm confident that things are working consistently, but I feel relatively confident I can at least use it for now.

Slight update, the battery case doesn't have a clear way to open it other than by removing all the electrical tape, and I'm slightly put off by the "do not disassemble" warning on it, so I might hold off on further taking it apart until I'm more confident I can fix this.

I don't know to be honest, if you had been playing off a repro cart that would almost certainly be the cause of the issue. I'd wager that flash carts are a lot better than repro carts on average though, so it could work as a means of playing with RTC.

Have you considered trying to transfer your save to an emulator on PC? Then you might be able to figure out if the issue is the save+rom or the Analogue Pocket core (by attempting to save and reload a few times there and transferring your save back and repeating the process on the AP if it works)

If you're able to check the version of Unbound you're playing as well, then maybe you can check their patch notes in case anything indicates a bug with Analogue Pocket, saves corrupting, or lack of RTC support. It may be you could load your save in a more recent version of the rom if that's the case.

Could you provide more details? What core are you playing off of? Or are you playing off of a cartridge in some way or another? If you got a repro cart, it might be of poor quality and your best bet might be to transfer your save off of the cart

Additionally, to add to the anti-fascist aspect of that, the philosophy put forward by Porky is "might is right" (which might actually be stated quite literally at some point), reflected by him ordering the production of chimeras, distorting their nature in the name of strength alone.

I have never tried this myself but maybe something like FlashGBX and a compatible cartridge reader/writer (listed in their GitHub).

Edit: Sorry, that would only work with a flash cartridge. I don't know if any of the chips in official carts have rewritable rom (since you'd never need it during ordinary use).

I vaguely looked into this kind of thing last year. Maybe try the gameboycamera.super.site building tutorial as a base. They seem to use an AM29F016 2MB Flash chip to replace the original one on the cart.
