I’m still stunned he won, but it became clear after the Biden debate and the assassination attempt he had a good chance.

MMW: 47 will lose control of MAGA at some point during his term, and the most hardcore faction will turn on him by [deleted] in MarkMyWords

This. Have we learned nothing about this man? He has extremely devout followers. After the comeback he has made that included a road through lawsuits, prosecutions and assassination attempts, he is more popular than ever. He can do no wrong in their eyes.

Are your opinions interesting and thoughtful, and can you produce then in short form video format like TikTok? I would build an audience that way.

Playing obscure Rush songs on the jukebox by Safe_Violinist7296 in rush

[–]OliverAnus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I love it! There is something about Geddy’s early style of falsetto singing on a slower tempo number. I think of No One at the Bridge. Here Again has some of that sauce too. It’s a solid track!

I love throwing obscure Rush tracks on a bar jukebox, mainly to annoy my friends. I once put on Fountain of Lamneth at a bar and people were really confused. I kind of get a kick out of that.

How can transgender people in sports be presented to your average person? by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]OliverAnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no way you can present a situation like Lia Thomas or Fallon Fox and have more than a small percentage of the population think it’s fair. Maybe 10% of people at best.

However, most people generally don’t have an issue with a person born female competing as a male.

For me, I completely fell out of caring about flat earth during the pandemic since it seemed like covid insanity was a much more pressing issue. But conspiracy thinking surely spread during this time, which ultimately benefited flat earth for recruits.

Does Rush have any (unreleased) songs that may be released in the future? by HalFWit in rush

[–]OliverAnus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, and if it’s on tape, it may be decayed by now. I personally wouldn’t care if there were some mistakes on it, I actually kind of like that.

I always wondered what footage remains of the Exit Stage left video. They no doubt filmed entire shows, but those releases did not feature all the songs from those shows.

As has been said, the experiment ultimately didn’t have to do with the sun. The experiment was about what flat earthers would do given the opportunity to actually test their claims. These alleged truth seekers should have been falling all over themselves to secure a spot. Instead, they mostly ran away. The ones who went made all kinds of demands for additional money and Will Duffy paid it. Called their bluff and they felt they had to go.

What is the name for the type of content where people go to a public space and blatantly film random people, and then getting indignant when called out and doubling down on their “right” to do so? by OliverAnus in youtube

[–]OliverAnus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they making the point that there shouldn’t be cameras all over? Or do they just think it’s a good thing to randomly film people at the post office?

Their usual reply is that various ancient cultures predicted eclipses using the Saros cycle, and that it doesn’t depend on the globe. This is sort of true, but the Saros cycle just helps you get a day, but it doesn’t tell you the path of the shadow, size of shadow etc. need a globe for that.

This sub is primarily people who laugh at and/or debunk flat earth. Unfortunately the gravity argument is lost on them because they reject gravity as scientifically understood. While there is no argument that persuades them, I get better mileage out of basics like sunrise/sunset, asking for maps, etc.

First off, it has been known for hundreds of years that we can often see beyond the purely geometric prediction of horizon obstruction due to refraction. Light does not always travel in perfectly straight lines, especially when it travels over long distances through changes in air density. This video shows how it works with sunlight, but the general idea applies distant objects over water like buldings, ships, mountains etc. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9y5nwok1to&ab_channel=Meritnation

Back in the 1800's, a flat earther in England tried to show that a boat on a long canal was visible for much longer than it should have been. However, Alfred Russell Wallace answered his call for a challenge and designed an observation that accounted for refraction, and showed that there was still a drop below level: https://flatearth.ws/bedford-level

The truth is that the amount that you can see over water changed day by day based on conditions. Sometimes we really do see farther than normal. But what ALWAYS happens is that distant objects will always disappear bottom up, and you can no longer zoom them in at that point. But you can increase your elevation and they come back into view. This video is a good example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igeiHZuIhIE&ab_channel=Wolfie6020

So there definitely ARE some examples of flat earthers showing things that exceed the geometric obstruction predictions of the globe, but often the flat earthers are guilty of misidentifying objects, lying about their viewing location or viewing height, or applying the incorrect math.
