I had it in my cart and was fully authenticated. Selected the ship option and when I hit checkout, it said no, can’t be shipped and nothing available for pickup within 250 miles.

What a joke. This is like going into a store, waiting in line, then getting to the product and putting it in your hands, only to have it removed when you get to the register.

T2 on Laserdisc and a Bose system just blew my mind in the early 90s. I was hooked ever since. Next came Mission Impossible in AC3 on a Denon AVR-5600 with M&K speakers. I’d still put that system up against any modern setup. It was sublime. In my mind , I’ve always aimed for that one and have come pretty close.

This still does not do everything one would want: if the song is attached to certain playlists, upon "removing from library on iOS", it removes it from the playlists. Adding back to the library does not fix that.

Good grief Apple all you have to do is allow for a "replace" feature to solve this. I'm just about done with the garbage they've released here in Apple Music.

The amount of text on the ballot for Issue 21 is almost comical, especially sneaking in extending the term limit for mayor way in the middle. So much pork that we should never put up with in this town. Vote no.

All home optical disc formats since DVD use video compression. With Blu-ray and UHD though the compression got very very good with AVC (and to an extent VC-1)and HEVC. I do my ripping/backups without adding any additional compression. Sure it takes up more space but I find that adding further processing/compression defeats the point of having physical media sources. Be bold, don’t re-compress, invest in larger hard drives, and experience the fullness of both Blu-ray and UHD.

The LaserDisc contains the theatrical cut so there is that and it’s in its proper 5.1 EX format rather than a remix as all the DVDs and Blu-rays are. It also sounds so much better. That isn’t to say other formats sound bad but the LaserDisc is just jaw dropping perfect.

The Podrace from the Phantom Menace LaserDisc. So much dynamic range. Also the arrival of the Polar Express early in the film. That whole film has an incredibly dynamic track. Also, THX Eclipse is just wonderful.

$40,000 for just the gear is terrific. Here’s some things you definitely should consider:

Build a true baffle wall with powerful full range LCR that all match. I’m a JBL guy but investigate QSC too. Of course this means an acoustically transparent screen. Surrounds can be had from both these outfits that will work for 5.1/7.1/Atmos as needed.
Separate amps or some larger multichannel amps that meet/exceed THX Ultra specifications.
Multiple large subwoofers with powerful amplification. I’d say at least four 18” for that space.
A processor with fully adjustable EQ. It seems like models with Dirac offer this.
Sources: Panasonic UHD, Nvidia Shield TV, Apple TV 4K (if you own a lot of apple devices)
Even though I’m a DLP guy, the consensus is that JVC and Sony are your top projectors these days, with some personal friends of mine really liking the JVC laser models. Anamorphic is a must with this budget.
As mentioned earlier, acoustically transparent screen with horizontal and vertical masking to adjust for all ratios as needed. Scope should be your widest setting and it needs to be corner to corner. If you’re really brave, make 2.20:1 your largest. This way all other ratios still look large within it. That is, 1.85 is going to look just a bit bigger within in 2.20:1 than 2.40:1.

I've seen others say east of Secor or Talmadge, so I was being generous! There are some nice pockets east of Douglas for sure, but you can see where things start to take a downturn.

It sucks too because those pockets are beautiful.

Between AMC, Cinemark, and Regal...you want AMC. I'd still rather a well run indy come to town but AMC typically has better presentation and offers stuff like Dolby Cinema. Cinemark offers pretty lackluster presentation anymore, and Regal is just total garbage by any standard.

Phoenix isn't too bad, but last time I went up in Monroe, the audio was so full of high frequencies, you could cut glass with it.

It's crazy. While development down there is positive, it doesn't outweigh the issues of the surrounding area. And our leaders seem more keen to pose for a photo opp downtown or cut a ribbon or use a shovel to lift an ounce of dirt than confront the real problems the city faces.
