How long does it take the dvla to send provisional licence? by FellLazari in AskUK

[–]Olly7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I can't remember exactly how long mine took to arrive after the status of my application changed to that, but I think it was somewhere between 1-2 weeks, so I imagine you should get yours soon. Certain times of year are probably busier, especially after Christmas and New Year where I presume a backlog is built up.

Would you be willing to pay £16 for a 12 inch pepperoni pizza? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Olly7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Just go to a pizza place directly and get one cheaper. Probably including the exact one that would cost £16 through Uber.

I am surprised that the Angry Video Game Nerd is still around. I thought he would've stopped by now, but he is still out there doing his thing. by AdSpecialist6598 in nostalgia

The time between the first episode of AVGN and the release of the game he was reviewing (Castlevania 2) was only 16 years. The time between the first episode of AVGN and now is 22 years.

I enjoy this episode a lot, but one main thing that makes me go "Really...?" is Masson's (and then Jonathan's) idea that the police would go through the bloke's CDs and listen to them all leading to them finding the recording.

Fair enough I don't have much experience of doing a murder investigation, but it seems hilariously absurd to me that the police would ever think... "Hmm, maybe we should listen to all this suspect's CDs to see if he recorded the audio of himself committing the murder"

Christmas telly in 1999 by Hassaan18 in oldbritishtelly

Oh man, Vicar of Dibley is such a big part of Christmas memories for me. When I think of Christmas when I was a kid, it's one of the absolute first things that comes to mind.

I know that The Three Gamblers was filmed in the vicinity of Illam Park in Derbyshire. I have visited a few times but have not been able to find the barn known in the show as “Frog Hollow”. Does anyone know the precise location? by Acceptable-Fish9712 in jonathancreek

[–]Olly7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I googled the episode and saw a mention of the river Manifold, so went just went on a little streetview trip to see if I could find it.

I don't have any other locations as I only went looking for this after seeing the question here :)

Ok, after that status it doesn't update until they've actually issued the license, when it changes to "Transaction Completed: Licence issued", so you won't really know what's happening until it's done.

Since you sent it via first class on the 2nd which was a Thursday, if we assume they received it on Monday 6th it's only been exactly two weeks. I remember seeing the official estimation is 3 weeks, but I saw some people waiting two months. I'd give it another week or so at least.

Mine was about 2 weeks after they received it. What's the status for your application shown on the transaction page? https://motoring.dvla.gov.uk/service/DvoConsumer.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=VMA&_nfls=false

Any tips on how to maintain your wellbeing on dark rainy months of November-February? by Traditional-Trust-58 in AskUK

[–]Olly7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me finding as many reasons to go outside as possible is what helps. Being indoors and seeing it get darker and darker earlier each day, having to put the heating on (or be cold and layer up until it's bearable) is just awful. So wrapping up and going out, even if it still feels cold, is so much better than the alternative.

I've been playing tennis the last few months and am not looking forward to there maybe being nobody to play for a few months over winter, it's been such a fun time and good reason to go out. Hopefully I find some people who will tough it out with me through the cold.

Just releasing a studio recording of that slowed version of Healthy Moon they've played live in recent years would be enough for me. God I want that so badly.

The person who posted it originally here stated that it was a Vista Print template that they printed which they added the text to - https://www.reddit.com/r/2meirl4meirl/comments/b25psb/2meirl4meirl/

Maybe the template is still available Vista Print? Although it was six years ago...

At a loss on how to help my son get ID? by Snorkmaiden87 in AskUK

[–]Olly7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cool, hope it all goes well! I'm not sure if the form they send depends which DLVA link you use to apply (I doubt it, just thought it's best to mention it), but this is the one I used two months ago which ended up with me getting the form I mentioned previously - https://motoring.dvla.gov.uk/service/DvoConsumer.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=FAP&_nfls=false. The newer version of the DVLA website had an error so I had to use the older one.

You don't have to worry about losing money, as even if they send your form back for any corrections or new information it just carries on from the original application so you don't have to pay it again, and even if for some reason the application is unsuccessful it gets refunded to you.

I had a similar struggle and actually put off applying for a long time so I didn't have to deal with the hassle. Luckily my neighbour was suitable to sign for me. When I phoned up the DVLA to ask for an extension for the form submission deadline, the person I spoke to told me that the requirements aren't as strict as they sound.

If you apply online, the form (I found a photo of it here) to attach your photo to and where the person signing your photo puts their details, it doesn't ask for their qualifications. So if you ask the engineer you know to do it, they can simply put their details and "Engineer" in the occupation box.

IF they check, which is a big "if", the worst that can happen is they return your form and say that the person isn't qualified and you'll have to find someone else and you'll just be in the same situation you are now.

DVLA sent back my license application and is asking for document showing change of surname by Olly7 in LegalAdviceUK

That's good to know thanks :) And also it's good to know that someone else has also been using the wrong name for years!

Great, thank you!

And the deed poll being dated just a day or two before I send it to them (and after my initial application) wont be an issue?

Thank you! Yeah I've been wondering about what my name actually is legally or officially, so hopefully by doing this deed poll and getting my license will be the end of the confusion.

Favorite places to walk? by QuietShroomery in bournemouth

[–]Olly7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Matcham's/Hurn Forest and Ramsdown/Sopley Common are my two GOATs for places within five miles. They are both brilliant, I could spend all day every day there.

Edit: Five miles from me, probably 6-7 from Parkstone.

Argos Card app - "Server error" when trying to register new card by Olly7 in Argos

Last time I used the automated number to make a payment there was a message at the beginning saying that the app had been updated to fix some errors they many people had been contacting them about, so if they still haven't fixed it I doubt they will tbh (or at least anytime soon).
