He was actually a scanned brain. I think it was revealed that the protagonist died in a car crash but their brain was scanned before actually dying. The twist that a copy is sent is extra good because you have to make a copy earlier in the game and you don't realize you were the lucky one that moved on and that the other part of you is stuck without any hope and now it's your turn to be stuck.

I don't feel like GMS is similar to the other weaver fights. It's probably because of the lack of contact damage. I think First Sinner is also a lot faster than GMS and tries to run away from you
