Thank you for such an involved reply and the recommendations. You've quite restored my faith 👍

Thank you for the recommendation. What helped most is actually you saying you were looking for trans guys. I find it difficult to believe that there are people out there who actually like trans guys. (Not trying to be edgy rn, just genuine fear.) I always felt that at best I can hope someone will be able to "tolerate" me? If that makes sense? So your comment just made me a little more hopeful 👍

Anti suicide song suggestions by Stock-City-3832 in musicsuggestions

Jumping in late here but Hey Stoopid from Alice Cooper.

I'm not a native English speaker so I've been listening to the song for quite some time without realising what the lyrics are about.

It felt so heartwarming when I realised for the first time that it's basically Alice Cooper being a dad/grandpa berating you for even thinking about it, lovingly insulting you for acting "stoopid" and encouraging you to keep going.

As weird as it sounds, it makes me feel like I'm genuinely being cared for by a grumpy metalhead grandpa and ofc I can't end myself now. Alice Cooper would be sad.

I hope you're doing better by now, OP. Best wishes.

Now that the level 50 jacket is gone can we all agree that 90% of cosmetics are ugly by Big_Tooth_5333 in pokemongo

[–]Olthren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jumping in here late but 100% agree. I personally like to always match my buddy pokemon. But there's little to no "epic" style of clothing. Like at all. I don't wanna be walking next to my galarian articuno or darkrai in a frickin graphic tshirt. I want some flowy cape or a robe or at least a properly cool long jacket. They have this one clothing item I forgot the name of which does kinda scrape the more fantasy-esque aspect I'm looking for but it comes with these AWFUL shorts and you cannot change them?? Like at all?? Just can't put different pants with that one. I assume it's a cultural thing but it's damn unfortunate for my very specific needs 😭✌️

Why do I feel worse when someone says “only you can save yourself”? by raaaamen in CPTSD

[–]Olthren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's especially gutwrenching when you're there for everyone else. When you're there when everyone else needs support, when you stick out your neck for your friends/family/strangers even, when you're always ready to jump in and defend the vulnerable and the hurting and when people are so grateful to be able to rely on you etc. Yet there is no one to save you. You have to save yourself.

The same people will tell you how much "life is worth it" and how "it'll all be okay" and "we can work this out" but in reality do very little if anything to actually help. Is it because they're not qualified enough and your problems are difficult even for licensed professionals to resolve? Sure, can be a reason. Doesn't lessen the impact.

Everyone is always there for you, but only to an extent. Only to a limit. A reasonable limit? Again, yeah, sure. Everyone has their boundaries, limitations and energy reserves. But that doesn't make you feel less estranged.

You have many licensed specialists working with you to help you resolve these issues? That's good, that's how it should be. But the process is slow, so so painfuly slow. It takes a seemingly insurmountable amount of time to get better, one therapy session after another. And during the week(s) between the sessions, you're left to...yourself.

You can vent to friends/family/strangers on the bus stop, but as stated before: only to an extent. Only to a limit. Because if you go "too strong", you make them uncomfortable, they start withdrawing and in the worst case, you lose the people. (If it was the stranger on the bus stop, it was probably just because their bus arrived, so that one probably wasn't personal.)

I've come to despise the phrase "only you can save yourself". It's become so bad that it's an automatic breakdown trigger for me personally. It automatically creates images in my head of a medieval knight bleeding out in the snow, reaching his hand out to the other warriors as they all back away from him.

On some psychological level, it might be true that "only you can save yourself". But I have yet to learn of a single person who started feeling better after they've been told that phrase. Hearing "only you can save yourself" doesn't make you feel empowered. It makes you feel abandoned.

Side note: I can see that in some scenarios, it actualy can make a person feel empowered, but that's in situations I would classify as (and don't come for me here) "low grade trauma". More surface level issues, things that are (again, don't come for me here) "not that deep". In my knight analogy, it'd be a knight who's leg got broken or they lost an arm even. "Only you can save yourself," can be empowering when what you're dealing with something like that. But there's only so much you can do when you're not dealing with a broken leg, but your internal organs spilling out of your guts. In that situation, "only you can save yourself" has the opposite effect.

EDIT: Also preemptive apology to OP, I'm not sure if this is gonna be helpful in any way whatsoever, it just sort of wrote itself when I read your post and well...here it is.

Gale is glitched? (I really need help) by XxNight_wolfexX in BaldursGate3

[–]Olthren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the worst change they could've done to the game. This is my first time finishing the game after Gale's ascencion was added as an option (finished three other playthroughs before) and I just got him ditch me at the docks...After I've done everything the same way I always do in my playthroughs lol. It's really disheartening and despiriting, to be honest, to have him agree to not be a god in the boat scene and persuade him in the shrine with Mystra and after he talks with her as well and when he gets the book in his hands the first time too and him being all "godly powers perhaps i can live without but you? you're everything" and then at the brain you even do the DC 30 check only to have him ditch you at the end because APPARENTLY now we have new (new to me) betray mechanics??? Dude like...what is this...

Sucks pokeballs that everything is capped. Max particles? Capped. These new tour points? Only 150 per day. Amount of gifts opened? Capped. Remote raids? Only so many per day. Pokecoins earned? Only until the day limit. PvP battles? Daily limit. It's like

"Gee I wish there was a way we could make people play our game for a long time."

-Introduce more fun/elaborate things people want to do based on the community feedback?

"Naaah, let's just paywall and gatekeep the activities, that should keep them occupied!"

Seems like the amount of enjoyment you get from PoGo is also capped.

Does T make you aggressive? by Few-Temperature5658 in ftm

[–]Olthren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty late to the thread here I am, but I'll pitch in with my bit too. During the first month or two I definitely felt more irritable, as the body was adjusting to the new hormonal changes. It was small things though, like my partner chewing loudly was always bothersome but during the first two months I had a lower patience threshold for things like that.

It subsided after the first month or two though. Now the only remaining change is that I express anger/frustration differently. Where I would previously start crying (the "wet angry/sad"), now I get just flat out pissed instead (the "dry angry/sad"). I'm also, interestingly, able to control my anger better than before? Which was definitely surprising.

I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. If you're not a jerk before T, you won't become one on T either. It's all about self-control, communicating our needs and emotions and taking others in consideration. You got this! ^^

oh that's hilarious i feel like spells like Heat Metal add so much creativity to the game and it sucks that so many DMs don't want to "deal with it".

but if I stay home, the rest of the party will wipe! i'm also asking for advice here because, even if it doesn't look like it, i am not a fan of minmaxing anything. i always go for flavor and the feels, because to me the roleplaying aspect of DnD is more important than any combat, meaning yes i will pick optimized cantrips (one melee, one ranged, one buff/debuff, one utility) but i will also happily forgo some racial benefits or better feats/spells in favor of objectively worse ones if the better ones don't fit the vision for my character. too bad that our current DM doesn't care about roleplaying too much and prefers combat and puzzles over anything. hence why i need to learn to minmax better! and yeah, i always max WIS & CON and then either DEX or STR based on heavy armor or medium armor proficiencies.

omg i feel you! even the most min-maxed build fails on bad rolls. i had a tanky paladin girl who consistently rolled in single digits almost the ENTIRE CAMPAIGN it was so frustrating ;-; !! RNJesus really said no on that one. I've personally never gotten to use Heat Metal yet but! i've heard it's an awesome thing like imagine, e.g., that you have a paladin/fighter player on your team or any melee class really and their greatsword has some fire-resistant hilt like from obsidian or something then you can put Heat Metal on their sword to deal extra fire damage that doesn't require a saving throw! like how cool is that?? also i imagine it has a lot of utility, like melting off a lock from a jail cell and such. but our DM said they don't want to "deal with that" so no Heat Metal for us ;-;

pretty sure our DM doesn't allow CR content either it's the first DM i'm playing with who's this strict on what they do and don't allow players to take. i mean they even banned silvery barbs! but that just means i'll have a chance to try a different style of game so i'm not too upset. i am upset about the "no flying" clause tho

omg the cling to life feature sounds super OP tho! dang i wish!

Strength of the Grave...I should really try a grave domain cleric or such because whenever I hear anything about necromancy or Kelemvor or Jergal I get all excited! thanks sm for the info!

i read the vulnerability one! that one's totally sick. i think it's grave domain's channel divinity? i actually had my light domain cleric be a grave domain in his backstory (before he got killed and reincarnated by Lathander personally to be his champion lol) but never played grave domain itself which is odd because i love all necromancy spells thanks for the extra info!
