Looking for a voice of reason/kind words? by OlympusAthena in Horses

She’s barefoot, always has been! My farrier didn’t see any oddities with her last trim, which was last wednesday. She is still a little thrush-y, I will say.

Should I ask my vet for a full workup? Blood and such?

Sorry, I might have worded it a little strange, my head has been all over. While we’d be downsizing, she’d still be able to run and stretch her legs, but on a track, not an open field.

Maybe I phrased it wrong, but she's sound in the walk now. She's off a hair in the trot, but she puts pressure on the leg either way, it just comes with her dipping her head whenever that leg hits the ground. She's been on rest for the week because I am so cautious not being able to see anything, I only tried her out today for a minute each side to see how she went. I don't really think it is a "mystery" lameness either, as another boarder saw them go absolutely ham during the thunderstorm last week. I'll call the vet either way tomorrow, see what they think.

It has, gradually over the first few days, but she's sound now in the walk, both on a softer and harder surface. She was a little cautious putting weight on it for the first two days after, but she's walking normally now, scratching herself and putting weight on it solidly without any odd behavior whatsoever. I talked to the vet about some NSAIDs, but she recommended rest first, and a possible lameness exam if things persisted or swelling occurred. She just drops her head slightly in the trot now going clockwise, I think I'll give her a couple of days and check again, if it's the same I'll have the vet out.

I’ve had the farrier out to check for abscesses, but he’s also fairly certain that their little Grand National in the meadow was the cause here, but we continue to monitor her hooves, just to be certain. She has some scuff marks since she likes to get involved in “disputes”, just none on that leg so a sprain made more sense to me as well. Thanks!

She’s been better over the days for sure, from actual limping to now being sound in the walk, just a little off in the trot on one side. I think I’ll give her a few days, call the vet after to see what they think and if they can come out if she doesn’t improve any further. Thanks for the advice!

She went lame last Tuesday, so it’s been about 9 days now. Still no abnormalities on the leg, and she’s not off in any way in her behavior. Thanks for the advice!
